If your RENT in Shelbyville seems high... it could be worse

Posted Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at 10:34 PM

According to realtor.org (National Association of Realtors website)the city with the highest average rent is New York at a whopping $2922 a month. Remember this is average rent. Some other cities that are in the top ten are #3 Boston $1658 (I guess the Yankees finally beat them in something), #5 Los Angeles $1452, #7 Washington DC $1302, and #10 Chicago $1010. I would guess that Shelbyville would fall between $450 and $500.

As far as my rent is concerned you are a tad bit off base with your estimate.

Being from "Back East", I think that rents in Shelbyville are high in proportion to the wages in Shelbyville. Yes, rent in New York is much higher but then again so are wages-plus you have Major League Baseball, professional tennis, theatre, arts and music, shopping, I could go on but....

I don't understand why so many people want to live cheek to cheek like they do back east , but I am glad they do. Let them have their high rents and theatre, & arts. I'll step out side and look at the beautiful natural canvas that is my back yard and the plays the wild animals are putting on. It goes well with the music of nature.

I do agree that Shelbyville rents may be a little high when you look at all the factors. I also agree that there are more things available in the larger cities that do cause those rents to go up. Bill H, I would have to also agree that I like the space and the "natural canvas", but I can also appreciate the convenience of being able to do pretty much anything without the hour drive.
