I am blogging this afternoon from sunny Orlando, although the clouds are rolling in. Why am I here? Not to see Mickey, but rather to train and be educated about the real estate industry. I am at the international business conference for my particular real estate franchise. I come every year because I feel the continued training and networking is vital to my business. I think continuing to learn is vital to any business.

Would you use a doctor that does not continue to train or tax adviser that does not stay current with the tax changes? If not then do not use an agent that does not continue to train and stay on top of the market. He or she does not have to go to a national conference but should at least train at the local level. We are all subject to 16 hours minimum every two years. That is just 8 hours a year. I am not sure that is enough.

As for the national conferences... what a great way to learn, have a good time, and write the entire trip off on this years tax return.

Since you are training in real estate, maybe you can answer something for me. Is it better to sell a house by the owner or by going through a real estate agent? My husband and I have thought about selling our home and buying one a little more out in the country and a little bigger. I've always been told that, if you go through an agent, you have to put the house on a contract and you can't take it off until the allotted time is up on the contract. Is that right? We also thought about just building on to it and keeping it, but I'd like to explore all options before we make a decision! Thanks in advance!

Candasons07, I am obviously a little bias on your question and can give you many reasons why listing with a realtor would be best. Yes you are under contract with him or her for a certain period. The contract protects all parties. It gives you representation and also lays out the details under which the agent will work. When selling a home there are many required disclosures and legal issues that must be done. There is also alot more to it than putting a sign in the yard and running an ad in the paper. If you look on the sports page you can find my contact number. Give me a call and I will be happy to come over and discuss things in more detail.
