Walk a Mile in My Shoes...

I have been selling real estate for 10 years, and in that time my wife and I have moved several times to different homes. Now with two kids and one coming the idea of moving gets worse as we grow as a family. More stuff to move, more schedules to worry about, not enough help to move and watch the kids, and so on.
As a realtor it can be easy to forget how stressful the home buying or selling process can be. We are the coordinators of the deal and it is our job to make sure everything is done properly and correctly and it better be on time. We only get paid if we get the deal to the closing table.
As a seller it can be very stressful to sell your house and do the required repairs and wait for the appraisals, inspections, reinspections, loan approvals, and so on. Not to mention getting help to move or lining up the moving company. All of this while working a career and juggling the family life. It is not stressful, right? WRONG!! I am experiencing this right now as I sell a home in Murfreesboro. I would like to think that going through it so much helps me be a little better at being a realtor. I am not sure, but I know that I will be more patient with my clients. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Mr.Parker ...Well I wear a size 6 1/2 shoe and i would walk any day in your shoe if you would just walk in my for a few hours..I am sure once you did you would start running and leave my shoes with me...To start off with this is the 3rd time I have written this in the past hour...Our main computer started shuting itself off several times a day since my husband installed this new virus thing on it 2 weeks ago...Out of no were it just shuts down...Now I am on my son's laptop since he is in school..2 days ago our T.V. started cutting itself off all by itself also...Saturday I pre-heated my oven and was baking a Grits Cake and went to put it in and the oven was not working..The element had burned out and Kincades had closed..So yesterday my husband went to get a new element for it and would you believe that they had sold all 6 of them yesterday they had in stock..So they were ordering more..He would had gotten it on Monday but on the way home from work he had a flat..Well now none of my burners on top of my stove work..the red light comes on ..so there is power but the burners do not work..We are also tring to buy a home...We have rented since we moved here in 1996...We wanted to get a feel of the area before we bought when we moved here..My sister has lived here for about 30 years..That is why we moved here..Our other children were all grown except for 1 and he was about to go into kindergarden when we moved here..Now he has 1 year left of school..Then about 2000 I was getting real homesick and thought that we would move back to North Carolina..But in Oct. 2000 I was told I had breast cancer and Vanderbilt took wonderful care of me and I wanted to stay so the same doctors could take care of me...Then in 2002 I had a mini stroke and in 2004 I had a mini stroke that took my side vision and then in 2006 I had another and it took my speech for about 6 months but now I can talk faster and more than I ever had..Then in May 2007 when I went for my finally 6 month check up since 2000 for breast cancer it was BACK..But I am fine now and we move on....Back in May 2005 I had worried myself in a bleeding ucler and did not know I had it until I started throwing up so much blood that when my husband and son came into the bathroom they were standing in blood and the ems came and got me and I was in the hospital for a while and had to be given blood..Then April 26 2005 we got the phone call no one wants to get..Our 5 year old sweet grandson had drowned and that was the longest ride home back to North Carolina we have ever droven..Our Devon was gone..We would never hear his voice again..He would never hold my hand or call me nana or climb on grandpa lap and hold his face in his little hands and say I love you....I went into a deep deep depression...We have been to way to many of my son's friends funerals since then also...We have been looking to buy a home since Feb....we found one we loved and the deed of the house was in the builders name and then they put it in their son name and then they took a short loan out and put it back in their name..After all the paper work and faxing and mailing we find this out and the house could not be sold for 3 months...then we find another here in Wartrace and we loved it..a brick Rancher..as my husband was walking around outside the house he saw that on all sides the bricks were cracked from the house settleing....we asked the Realtor man if they could have it checked to make sure the house was sound..the inside was perfect..he said it would cost us about 500.00 to do it..We said no we were not going to pay for it..We thought that we would be moving into something by now..But we are still looking..I am up-set that we aren't cause I wanted to have my garden started by now...We depend on that every year....I have noticed that the prices of homes cost more here in Bedford County than they do in Coffee County..WHY is that ???? Wish you could help us...We need to stay in a certain price range also..We already know we can get a loan..It is just tring to find something..We want it out of the city limits also...Man it sure felt good to get some of this off my shoulders...

I'm so sorry for your many misfortunes, good luck with the house purchase.
Rebelrose
Bless your heart you have had a rough go of it, I sincerely hope things get better for you really soon.
I have noticed in life no matter how bad we think we have it there is always somebody who is worse off than we are..
Mr. Parker you are a wonderful realtor & friend. Not only were you patient with us the entire time we were looking you also showed up on moving day and helped us move. No one(realtor) has ever done that for us. When you get ready to move there is a family in Bell Buckle that would be more than happy to return the favor!!! Just bring the peanut brittle......
Not only does he sell houses, he sells a bad call umpiring pretty good too. Just clowning around with ya KP, you're doing a fine job.
Rebel Rose, You have had some hard times, and I would love to try to help in any way that I can. As stressful as things have been trying to sell a house, I am aware that it could be worse. We actually closed yesterday, and I was thinking about how good my life has actually been. My entire family has been very blessed by God. Please call me or email me and we can discuss your situation.
CanThisB, Thanks for the offer. We are actually already moved, so at least that stress is over with. You let my secret out. Now all my clients will want me to help them move. Just kidding.
Seedsower, I am afraid that Kurt is the umpire. I do not have the nerve to get yelled at for every call I make. I hear he does a pretty good job though. I am afraid to go to a game he calls because I may get arrested for fighting someone that yells at him. I guess his skin is a little thicker.
As for the selling stress it is much relieved since we have closed. I might actually be able to enjoy my kids and wife for the next few days...
Rebel Rose, I wanted to address your comment about the brick house and inspecting it. It is the buyers responsibility to satisfy themselves as to the condition of the house. The buyer can pay for a home inspection which would reveal any problems that the average person (like myself) would not notice by simply walking through the house. You are able to require or request that the seller repairs any problems that may be found. The TAR contract has a place for repairs in the contract.
As for the brick, you may be able to get a brick mason to look at it and tell you what may be required to fix it with out the cost of an inspector. A good inspector, however, is worth the money that you would pay them.
Did you guys sign an agency agreement with any realtors? Finding one agent to work with you and sticking with them is the wisest choice you can make. That agent will have your best interest at heart.
Sorry bout the mix-up Kenneth, but Kurt really does do a good job.
Hi Mr. K.Parker....Thank You so much for offering to help...If I say this will you know me..I BID $10.00.....I did not now it was you last nite at the Cataldo"s Benefit...I am the one that even got the 2 dog's that my sister is going to take Thank Goodness..They will go to a wonderful home...You had my son in 7th grade..And me and Dave Cataldo went a little nut's bidding against each other on the tool box for the truck..We had a blast last nite and I hope they made good money to help this wonderful family out that has been thru so much..But the good news is that Baby Arthur got to come home this past week and is about 5 1/2 pounds. Well this morning we woke up to no water here in Wartrace...It is like it is a vaccum and pulling the water backwards cause our water meter is going backwards...I will call you and maybe you can help us out..Once again it was nice to meet you last nite and we had a great time at the Benefit...
Oh Mr.Parker...Keller and Williams own that home with the cracks in the bricks..The one Realtor that has the house told us that we would have to pay for it to be looked at...
Rebelrose,Sorry so long to respond to you. I think I know the house and yes it would be your responsibility to check it for your self. I do know who you are, and I am glad you guys enjoyed the benefit. I have not heard the final number yet on the money raised. Call me anytime. I will be glad to help.
I also had a wonderful time at the benefit. Try to come out to the Wartrace Park this friday nite and enjoy the music...If you know of anything in the Wartrace Area please let us know..You know how to get up with the other half..Thanks so much..
