The Dreaded Class ReunionPosted Friday, June 20, 2008, at 12:27 AM
My 15 year class reunion is coming up soon, and I am very much looking forward to it. Seriously.... I am. Why do some people dread it or avoid it all together? I am excited to see familiar faces that are not so familiar anymore. It will be nice to catch up.

Depends really, if you were popular and had tons of friend then it will be fine. But if you were picked on and treated like crap for 4 years straight you most likely want to move on. When I went, I noticed that most of the guys who were the trouble makers were the same way even 10-15 years later. And they didn't age gracefully, as some of the pretty cheerleaders. I guess that hard to get lifestyle took it's toll on them.
The good side of it is to see how everyone is doing, old girlfriends, gloat. heh.
The bad side is hearing good people that have passed away, that is the hardest part for me. I had a couple close friend that brought a ton of laughs and they both died suddenly.
It's worth going.
Just don't expect it to be exactly as it was 15 years ago.
You've changed. They've changed. The world's not the same.
Few of you will have had life go just as you'd planned.
Much of what you've been given will be better than what you imagined.
(Thank God for "unanswered prayers"!)
At my reunion, the guys had less hair (I could see their eyes.) and just as much class as they'd ever had.
Not one of the men had a bad attitude.
I did notice that the "bad boys" had become solid citizens and didn't allow the kids in their lives to get away with anything.
The girls who were wallflowers and the girls who could have posed for Ingenue magazine had both learned that being a woman takes more than charm,
external beauty and being domestic.
They'd also learned that being "liberated" meant living up to one's own standards- not changing one set of social mandates for another.
I was pleased that the kids we thought would meet a bad end had turned their confusion and rage into a hunger for a better life.
Most had had to re-invent themselves in a new place but I think they were glad they could show us how far they had come.
It was great to see former teachers,Mr.Scott and other school personnel and relate to them as adults.
Unlike me and my classmates, they'd gotten younger.
When I graduated, those teachers in their forties and fifties were pretty long in the tooth.
But,when we saw them at our party, they'd become vital and not much older looking or decrepit than ourselves.
I hope everyone wears name tags and that there are plenty of yearbooks around.
Some of us had changed too much to be recognized and, sadly, some had died and some just weren't rememberd.
(Tags might keep you from mistaking one person for another.)
The people who want to hide their failures or flaunt their successes will fare the worst - as will people holding grudges.
The people who will get the most out of reunions will be the ones that see that their youth had its good and bad moments, that we were all going through things the others never guessed and that the important things we took from that time of our lives were still strong and would help us survive another ten or fifteen years.
It's worth going just to retire the illusions and enjoy who you all are now.
(BTW,as you get older, have reunions more often.
Every five years isn't too much and yearly could be better after the fiftieth year or so.)
The handful that were my real friends still are even if we only talk a few times a year, the others I could care less about to be honest! Not trying to sound mean.... I learned early on who my real friends were and you can almost always count them on one hand!
When we had our last reunion I called a friend of mine and ask her " Hey you going to our reunion" She is a very honest and straight forward person, she said,
" Heck no, I didn't like those people when we were in school and I sure am not going to pay to go see them now"
She always made me laugh. So we went to dinner together the night of our reunion instead of attending the gathering.
Disgusted,
If your reunion was anything like ours, you didn't miss anything. I think there were about 10 people present for our 20 year reunion. That was probably my last one, since most of the group I hung out with didn't bother to show.
Mike,
Are you from Shelbyville? I swear your name is familiar but from another state.
I've only gone to one of my reunions...that was a mistake. Most of the ones that showed up were the snobs in school, were still snobs at the reunion and still are today when I see them out in public.
I graduated from Community High School in Unionville one year before Disgusted did. She was just as mean back then as she is now...;^)
Heeeeyyyy, I'm a little nicer now!
Mike, do you still have that Mustang?
Ah ok, I went to school with someone with your exact name, but it was in another state. Wouldn't have that been spooky, Naw I don't know Disgusted so I wouldn't know how mean she is. Did she run someone over with a car then beat them or something?
Did she run someone over with a car then beat them or something?
I'm not the one on here that does that!
We need to have a commenter reunion and try to figure out who everyone is that doesn't know each other!
Oh no maybe not, someone might get hurt!
Hey Mike and Disgusted! I don't know who Disgusted is but hey anyway.
I went to Community also and was a year older than you Mike Molder (maybe you can figure me out by my username). I go by your house at least once or maybe more times a day, just so ya know.
Sadly, we didn't have a twenty year reunion to my knowledge or I'd of went. Our class pres lives in another state now maybe why.
Reunions are kinda funny... the guys get balder and the girls get broader.
Disgusted.
you are killing me ... really I would love to chat else where on the web, I swear you will die laughin at some of the stuff I found.
mmp84
If you went to Community you know who I am too, you know everyone knows everyone from there! You have me straining my brain now, are those your initials and are you a male or female?
We do plan to have name tags with a picture of the person so we can tell who they are and were. I hope we have a good turn out. I would like to see everyone, but I do see the point of someone that did not like it in school not wanting to go through the experience if even for one night. I do hope that people have matured and grown up enough to appreciate seeing everyone. Most of us live within 25 miles of each other and do not see one another so maybe for one night we can get together.
Dusgusted,
mmp84 is old as dirt if I read it correctly.
KParker,
I actually enjoyed High school, I was one of the popular ones, never had a problem getting a date or meeting up with friends etc. Got good grades, had great teachers and 95% of the people got along. Then there is that 5%, and I tell you what, they were a real pickle to deal with. It just makes you want to walk out in disgust at some of the things they thought was funny. Those are the people I dread seeing.
I was popular I guess as well, but we had a small class and everyone got along. At least I think we did. I am sure I will find out what some people thought different than me at the reunion. I do not dread any one in particular, but there are a few that I definitely hope to see again. We had our clicks but not too bad. Again, I may be looking at it from the wrong perspective because I enjoyed high school.
mmp84.....
I've suspected who you were for awhile, but wasn't sure. I've got a couple of guesses, but I suspect you also had an old Mustang like me....Am I right?
Disgusted,
I don't have the Mustang I had in high school, but I do have 66 convertible. If MMP84 is who I think she is, I wanted a mustang her brother had in a bad way!! Boss 302
I know who you are thinking of and we were friends, classmates and neighbors but I was MM and I married a P.
My brother is deceased also. He was in the '89 class.
Disgusted, I have no clue. Not even if you were Disgusted WAY back then. lol
Classmates dot com ? anyone?
Kparker,
I know of people that will probably dread the reunion but luckily I treated everyone pretty well and only had issues with a couple people. I think we are pretty much in the same boat because I am looking forward going to mine this year. Too bad I have to travel 10 hours to get there.
Disgusted,
Did you let me copy your SR Math homework in Mrs. Carlton's class?
stormblackclouds
No, math was def. not my best subject, you would have failed if you coppied me! I was an art freak, remember the owl and old barn picture on the old cafeteria wall under the auditorium? That was mine!
MMP, I think I do know who you might be but wont say it here. I think you also have a myspace??? I really hate that I signed up as Disgusted, I'm really not, I just was the day I signed up!
stormblackclouds
I did help try to roll her yard one year, her husband came out with a shotgun and we all headed to the cornfield! Not a good night.....
Hey stormblackclouds, We rolled her yard and it felt SO good.
I'm hoping we will have a 25 year reunion in '09. Gosh, that don't sound right. I don't feel like a grown up.
Yeah Disgusted, friend me on myspace!
Disgusted,
I cannot figure out who you are. Give me more hints. I figured out mmp84 and I see Mike every friday night during football season at Cascade's games.
Some people really enjoy high school reunions, & I'm one of those. I got along well with everyone in my class in Lewisburg and enjoyed school. We had our 50th reunion last year. We got together Fri. night, had a brunch on Sat., & then were together again Sat. night. There were no formal presentations and no entertainment. We ate & had a wonderful time visiting with everyone.
I had a business trip to a Mexican resort area this weekend, but my husband chose to stay in town for his 55th reunion. He had a great time both Fri. & Sat. nights & is glad he stayed home.
Okay, MMP84, were you also a cheerleader or is that giving our too much information? Sorry to hear about your brother. I'm going to have to pull an old yearbook out, because if I'm correct about who you are, I can't recall who your brother was.
Mike, I was at one time but not my senior year.
Storm BC, give me some hints, please.
I was talking one of our retired teachers about reunions recently. The less formal they are, you'd have a better turn out. Especially with the men folk.
I've noticed, that sometimes the ones who were quiet in school may turn out to have the most interesting life stories.
MMP84, Richard Burks and I thought we should try and organize a reunion of say 83-86 all at the same time. This was prior to all of us hitting the 20 year reunion mark. Maybe we could look into something like this for a 25 or 30 year reunion. Those classes were pretty tight and you'd have a better chance to get a decent turnout. You could even refine it to a two or three class reunion.
mmp
I was a cheerleader as well, although we didnt cheer at the same time. I was very shy and quiet, not your usual qualities in a cheerleader, huh? I am not shy or quiet anymore! I am such a different person than I was in school. I guess that is the reason I dont attend my class reunions. I had an unusual maiden name...a type of fruit.

Now I need hints on you, Stormcloud.
Disgusted had a very good looking older sister who was about 4 years ahead of her and was a cheerleader if I remember correctly. Disgusted wasn't a bad looking girl either....:^) (After all, I did date her briefly...)
Mike-
I am the cascade football coach's wife. I am gonna have to dig my yearbook out to help me figure out disgusted.

Would tossing out a year of graduation be too much information?

Mike pretty much said it all I guess! She may have been better looking but I'm still younger:)LOL
I'm still not figuring out stormblackclouds, what year did you graduate?
stormblackclouds, would that fruit be yellow?
Think you might be on to something.....
If it's who I think it is we were neighbors!
Ok so I know mmp84 and Mike Molder(hey there mike!)
But I do not know (by code names on here) who Disgusted and storm black clouds are:(
I am on myspace also.
I "talk " to mmp84 alot so why don't you other guys/girls hit me up on myspace.

The other "yellow fruit", Quantumcat..LOL...
Disgusted,
I think you are right, I believe you girls were neighbors while in school.
try small fruit,think ice tea...am i right?
I was class of 84 at Community aka doolittle
But I do not know (by code names on here) who Disgusted
Posted by Cindy Munsey
Sure you know who I am, you added me today!
oh ok got cha lol
I graduated in '86. Yes its a yellow fruit. Disgusted, we were neighbors? I am drawing a blank! Sorry.... Help me out here...
If your who I think you are, I used to ride my blue 10 speed bike to your house to play from time to time. Did you have a neat little playhouse in your backyard?
yes i did. What year did you graduate?
Gee did everybody in here go to Community School? LOL
Stormcloud,
She graduated the same year you did. If you faced Jimmy Lee's store from the front, she lived to the right almost behind the store, if I remember correctly.
Storm Cloud, doesn't it BURN you up when you can't figure things out?
Mike Molder,
are/were her initials KL
Cindy, her initials were KL!
finally...lol
I do think we should have a reunion of all the classes. This has been fun..
You guys have had a mini reunion on here. That is great. It does seem like everyone went to Community on here. Maybe you guys will have a good turn out if you have a multiple class reunion. My wife went to Notre Dame in Chattanooga and this year we went to her ten year reunion. On Friday they had a big gathering for every graduating class. It was packed and alot of fun. She was able to see alot of people in the classes above her and below her. On Saturday the individual classes had their 5, 10, 15 and so on reunions. In a small school like hers, like Community, and like Cascade the classes were all close to each other and the class above or below. The Friday night party would be fun.
SB? The neighbor part confused me. I didnt live there. Relatives of mine do and I spent many a summer afternoon playing there though! Thanks for the clue Mike!
Yes, but now I'm the one confused! Wow, I am getting old!
Your welcome, Cloud......Apparently that "clue" went right over Disgusted's head.....Now that is truly suprising....LOL....I just knew she would be a Simpsons fan
Nope Sponge Bob! It did take me a min. but I got it!
Hey StormBC, your last name wasn't that unusual. Mine was very. If ya google it, a type of bull comes up from another country comes up.
I'm not the same girl either. I thought I was shy and quiet too. I had to MAKE myself tryout to cheer so to try and overcome some shyness.
Now, if I get started, I can't shut up!
Time has a way of changing lots of things, thank goodness. I have many good memories, but many not so good ones too!
.........Now, if I get started, I can't shut up!

I've gotten a couple of e-mails from her....She's not lying....LOL
hardy harr harr, I started to add she could just ask Mike.
I wonder sometimes if I'm the only one who has bad memories of not-very-nice people from school I wouldn't care to EVER see again!
MM, I sure do! That would have to be my so called best friend back then and a few others.
High school was a very hard time. I think its probably harder for girls than boys. (All the cat fighting over stupid stuff!) I do have some fond memories, but I wouldnt go back for anything!
mmp84- you did have an unusual last name, but think of all the jokes I had to endure due to my last name!! Glad I have a common name now!
Disgusted- I can shut up either! Do you still live in the area? I dont think I've seen you since graduation.
Mike- you've never had any trouble talking! :)
sorry- got my posters mixed up!
mmp84- Now I cant shut up either!
(I am getting old too....my brain works alot slower than it used to!)
If any of you Community Alums want me to share your e-mail addresses with one another, just shoot an e-mail at mikemolder@cascadechampions.net and I'll forward it to whomever you'd like me too. I've enjoyed conversing with MMP84 via e-mail.
