There are still good samaritans out there

It is refreshing to know that in our world of decreasing morals and values that there are still good people out there. My wife and I recently moved to Bell Buckle (yes we moved again) and two days later we were in the hospital having our third child. While we were there someone came over and mowed our over grown and neglected yard. It was trimmed and all. I still do not know who it was but my family and I are very appreciative. I sure feel good about my new neighborhood.

Then today, my wife and I discovered that we had left our money envelopes (Dave Ramsey plan) at Kroger yesterday. They contained a pretty large sum of money(at least for us) and someone found them and returned them to customer service. All the money was in place and again my family is thankful to this person. It is nice to know that there are good people out there. Do you have any recent stories of someone helping you?

In our world of decreasing morals and values huh? I can think of many times throughout history when value and morals were no worse than today.

I think you missed the point of his blog . . .

My husband and I finally got our home refinanced with a better rate. The only thing we had to do before we could close was paint the outside. Our neighbor was kind enough to take a whole Saturday and part of a Sunday to help us get it done. When we asked him what we owed him, he said nothing! I thought it was very kind of him to help us without charging us a thing. I agree with the decreasing morals and values. I watched someone cut off an elderly lady in the Hardee's drive thru this morning. I guess some people are just worried about getting ahead of the rest of us. It's great to see that there are still a few good ones in the bunch! Congrats on the baby!!

I think that is a great story Kenneth. Welcome to our neighborhood. I've lived there for 6 years now but you know that because you sold me the house.lol It is a great place to live. That's 2 good news stories in a week. The story you just told and the one where Pam Smith painted an elderly ladies home. It's about time we get some good news. Thanks Kenneth!!!

Hey Kenneth,

That was me who mowed your lawn. I left a bill for 100 dollars on your front door. Did you not get it? ;^)

nascarfanatic,

I am not sure if you were trying to disagree or agree with the decreasing morals, but if in the past the values and morals were no worse than today then doesn't that mean they are worse now...which would be a decrease? My point is I was surprised by someone's act of kindness, which I do feel is more rare now than before.

Mike, I will pay you tonight at the game. I will be the man cheering for Cascade...I'll see you there.

I think we still have good people with sense around.

We just have some inconsiderate and foolish people who get more notice.

Thank goodness, the lesser folk's deeds are so startling that they make headlines every day,get plastered all over the tabloids and become the focus of the "surreality" shows.

The kindnesses everyday people perform seldom get that much publicity.

(I hope they never do.)

Yes,I want people to be aware of positive things and I want our hometown heroes to get recognition but I don't want good news to ever become surprising or rare.

I'd prefer hearing people get that "can-you-believe-it" tone in their voice when describing how someone cut off an elderly woman in a drive-thru than when they're relating how someone let a parent with a carful of hungry kids get in front of them.

(Morality aside, did the rude person not realize how many equally stupid people we have now who have guns and no impulse control?

A villain's next victim might be on his way to return a dozen DVD's about vengeful serial killers or running late for his anger management classes.

At the least,a sweet grandma might slam her vehicle into the boor five or six times then blink innocently: "Did I do that? Oh dear,I guess I need to take that senior's driving test.")

It's not only nicer,it's smarter to treat others with the respect and friendliness we'd want to receive ourselves.

I guess we could convince a lot of people of our wisdom if we remembered to "practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty."

Thanks to all that show that it's not just cliche'd and corny to "brighten the corner where you are."

"I watched someone cut off an elderly lady in the Hardee's drive thru this morning."

Well If you watched their commercials, it actually shows someone rearending the person and pushing them past the pickup window to get their meal. So if you look at it in that way, he might have been nice... LOL.

Congrats on the new baby!

I left my cell phone in a Wal-Mart (bathroom stall) in Mississippi when we were on our way down to the beach there. Much to my surprise, whoever found it, turned it in to customer service and it was there on the return trip home.

I think what Dr.Pack is doing for those 20 children. Is some thing others could learn a lesson from. His 20 years of business,he is giving 20 children braces. Now thats some thing to talk about. Not enough Dr.Packs out there. Most only think of insurance payments.I know the families of those 20 children are so for ever gratefull.

Way to go Dr.Pack.I know you are those childrens "HERO".

EM, Actually, the lady got quite irritated at being cut off. She honked the horn and was saying something to herself. It was a little amusing. So the person may have been "nice" to just cut her off, but he's lucky she didn't rear-end him and push him on down the line. That would have been a sight! I like your point of view!

I am sure she was irritated, Just stating how some people perceive things. No different how certain individuals that abuse their positions to get ahead while most families arejust trying to survive each week.

You know there are some good samaritans left around here, but if our community and i'm not speaking about everyday people i'm talking about the people who we are suppose to turn to when in need of help, If they don't stop supporting all the people from other countries and start supporting our people them good samaritans are going to stop too.

When a young lady gets left holding a baby on her own with no job or anything and has to return home, why is it that she can't get any help from govt. offices just because she is having to live back at home until she gets on her feet. I think it's very messed up because they allow people from other countries to walk into this town and they can go right up town and walk out with Food Stamps, Welfare the whole nine yards. But because of her parents income they can't help her. I'm sorry but at 21 they should help her. Instead all they can tell her is that if you were living in Bedford Manor we could help. How Jacked Up is our town?

The person who cleaned up your lawn for you was a nice person, but their intent was to save everyone else from having to look at your junky yard and as a message to stop being so lazy and clean up after yourself every once in a while. You shouldn't keep such a filthy yard. It's an eyesore and everyone hates it, and probably hates you too.

By the way, I NEVER shop at Kroger.

Wow Resentful Parent, You seem to have taken a liken to me. I have not been on in a while and went back to check old blogs only to find your comments on a few of them. You may have missed the point. We just moved in to the house and went to the hospital to have a baby. The yard while not well manicured is usually mowed but thanks for your insight.
