Big-ish news
Posted Saturday, May 28, at 8:38 AM At least for me it's big news, you might now care (and really you shouldn't), but this summer we're moving. My husband accepted a teaching job in Pennsylvannia. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to live 3.5 hours from our moms and 2 hours from both Philadelphia and New York City. With our moms getting older and especially since we now have children, we really wanted to be closer (our moms live in Connecticut)...
Heritage Medical Center I remember a while back reading about the Heritage Medical Center and how some people were unhappy with service they've had there. I can't remember exactly when it was, maybe when we were still able to comment on articles? Anyway, I've been spending a fair amount of time lately going there with the babies for bloodwork, chest x-rays, and general lab things...
Vote! I don't care who you vote for, but you should definitely vote!
I've been a bad TG blogger of late, but I have 2 very cute excuses... In continuing with bad blogging, here are some bullet points rather than actual paragraphs: - A few people have recently come up and said they recognized me from this blog. I seriously thought that no one really read this, so it felt pretty good to have some really nice people introduce themselves...
I thought that since I mentioned that my husband and I were adopting, that I would post that they're home! We traveled to Kinshsa, Democratic Republic of Congo, to pick them up 2 weeks ago. We stayed there about a week and then had a 30 hour flight home...luckily, we had a layover in Ethiopia and our flight home was full of about 30 other families with their newly adopted children! We were also lucky because the babies slept most of the way - until our 8 hour layover in Washington DC, but it's okay, they're adorable anyway.. ...
Sewing dresses So, I've been on a kick of sewing little girl dresses lately. No, I'm not pregnant. My husband and I are in the process of adopting two babies and one's a girl - she needs some homemade dresses. I thought I'd share with you my two favorites that I've made, so far:...
New Orleans trip This past weekend, I took a trip to new Orleans with my husband. I'd never been before, so I had a really fun time checking out the French Quarter. I mostly stuck the the French Quarter because that's where his conference was held - at a hotel in the French Quarter...
digital recorders? Does anyone have any recommendations on digital recorders? Like the flip camera? Jeremy and I are going on a trip in the spring and I think I'd like to video some of it. My digital camera can also record movies, but I wanted to know if any of you had any experiences with digital recorders...
Finished embroideries I realized today that I hadn't posted in a while and that when I did last post, I showed something I had been working on that I have since finished. It's a on a tote bag that I bought from Sublime Stitching, who by the way has a bunch of super cute embroidery patterns. ...
Farm Town I think I am addicted to Farm Town on Facebook. I don't really know why, since it's not very complicated and there isn't really much to do other than click on different fruits and veggie to plant them and harvest them...I think I just like the satifaction of being able to delete eveything and replant it in a bunch of different configurations...
So, last week my husband and I noticed that one of our cats, Bosie was acting strangely. He was being very affectionate...which for him was strange. We'd been having a lot of problems with him terrorizing one of the other cats for about a year. I wrote about it when it started, here...
Move over hexagons, it's embroidery time! I've put aside the hexagons and the quilt in the making for the time being to work on an embroidered gift for a friend of mine's birthday. I made her a set of embroidered tea towels (and a purse, but I didn't photograph that yet). I thought I'd share some of the pictures, since I think they're really cute. The patterns for the embroidery are all from the same place, Sublime Stitching...
Nobel Peace Prize! This morning when I woke up I noticed that a friend had texted me that Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. On one hand, I'm pretty excited about it. It's nice that the international community is recognizing that Obama has done some good and has the potential to do more...
Festival Of Trees and Holiday Bazaar at the Fly? I was looking at the Fly website this morning and saw a listing for their Festival Of Trees and Holiday Bazaar this December. Does anyone know anything about it? Also, do any of you know if the Fly has craft-y type fairs? The reason I ask is because I heard of a place in Huntsville, here, that sounds really cool. ...
touristy times Last week my cousin Julie was visiting from Montreal. Since she was here, I did quite a few touristy things that I normally wouldn't have done - like the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, but it was really fun. We had a great time with her and one of my dogs seems like she's going through depression without Julie to cuddle anymore. Anyway, I thought I would share some of the pictures I took at various places...
Will Ferrell video about healthcare I know this topic is really played out and we all have different opinions about it, but I saw this video today and it made me laugh. I thought I would share: Protect Insurance Companies PSA from Will Ferrell...
Non-American Politics As many of you know, Gabon, holds a place in my heart - not only is it the country that my husband wrote a book about, but it's also where, when I went over, he asked me to marry him. Anyway, the reason I am posting about this is because this past week there were elections held in Gabon. ...
hexagon obsession reaches new heights I few weeks back I posted a picture of a hexagon paper pieced quilt that I'm working on, that's a snippet of it above. I learned how to do it by following the instructions on this website. After reading those directions, my coffee table has become a repository for basted hexagons -...
Ted Kennedy I am a bit more saddened about the death of Ted Kennedy than I thought I would be - I didn't know him personally or anything, but I remember hearing my family talking about him (and others in the Kennedy clan) when I was growing up. I grew up in Connecticut, and in the fourth grade every public school takes a trip out to the state capital to learn about what happens there. ...
strange doll In my email this morning was the latest mailing from Bust magazine and inside the weekly mailing was an article about a doll. Not just any doll, this one is a doll (for little girls) that breastfeeds. It's manufactured by some company in Spain, and here's a link to an article about the doll...
