look at all the people in the stands!!
On Sunday afternoon, my husband and I went down to the alpaca show at the Celebration place. There wasn't much going on by the time we got there, but we did get to walk around the stalls and check out the cuteness - well, I was probably checking out the cuteness way more than he was...At any rate, we weren't there very long, but it was enough for us to start hoping that our (tiny) farm set up will be done soon - we want to fence around our yard and get some sort of fiber animals, sheep or goats or alpacas...

I know you were being tongue-in-cheek about the people in the stands, but actually quite a few of the horse shows and other such events that come to Calsonic Arena during the year are not spectator-driven. They're happy to have spectators, especially if it leads to more people interested in their breed or activity, but for many of them (not all) the revenue comes mainly from entry fees and that sort of thing. Spectators, if they come, are just icing on the cake, not really the reason for the event. In many cases, they don't even bother to try to publicize their event outside their circle of interest; we sometimes learn about such events at the newspaper by checking the Calsonic Arena web site. (Sometimes, we miss them altogether.)

We're used to the Celebration, and to fund-raising one-night horse shows, where crowds are the norm. But that doesn't apply to every breed or association.

It's actually quite an asset to have a facility like Calsonic Arena here because we have the opportunity, if we like, to check out something unusual like an alpaca show that doesn't come to most other communities our size.

I was just kidding about the crowds - my husband and I kept saying that it was nice that it was so empty. I'd imagine that during Celebration, it must get so cramped and hot in that place...being one of the few families that have moved to Shelbyville and aren't horse owners, we hadn't yet been to the facility.

Any reason why the title is "alapcas"? rather than "Alpacas" LOL :)

Because I was so excited about going to see the alpacas, that I momentarily forgot how to spell.

HAHA! Awesome. I was only kidding.

They are cute, aren't they!

They have alpacas at the Nashville Zoo (A MUST SEE). One of them peed for about five minutes straight, and I'm not exagerating! LoL It was pretty funny!

Mary, I went with my mom to the Nashville Zoo when she was visiting - the petting zoo area was our favorite part. I think we enjoyed it more than the little kids that were there.

I just forgot about everything this past weekend. We wanted to go to the Studebaker show & also to see the alpacas. Guess that's what happens when you get old.

cfrich,

It was our favorite part, too!
