Doll friends.
I was off from work yesterday and decided to watch MArtha Stewart - make fun of her all you want, but I think she's really cool. Turns out, Emily from
the Black Apple blog that I like was one of the guests. Michael Pollen was another, so it was like a double dose of good guests, anyway, Emily was showing Martha how to make one of her dolls. It seemed fairly simple and straightforward - even for someone like me who doesn't do much sewing other than putting linings into knitted purses. So, I downloaded the template and directions, which you can get
here on the Martha site. I ended up making two, the ones in the above picture. I think they came out pretty well. I had to hand sew them because even though I've been cleaning out my studio space, my sewing machine is still not set up. It didn't take too long to make them, and I've been telling my husband that I will be making an army of them. Actually, I'll probably just make a few more (for our twin nieces and for some friends that just had babies).
I would not have guessed that this is your first attempt. Great!
Thank you. Yeah, I'm a really bad sewer. I really like it, but it's certainly not my forte.
Those are so cute!!!!!
You did a good job!
I love watching Martha Stewart, and just bought her March Living magazine with gardening tips. She is always informative. I have not been able to watch her lately, but will have to DVR it.
I too am crafty! I own my own business making pouch slings. They are to carry your baby in. I have started making buggy covers also. Here is my webiste www.momaroosling.com! You can check out my craftiness there! Oh, and my site needs to be updated bad! LoL I have not yet put my spring and summer fabrics on there.
Mary, I've seen similar slings - I always think they're so cute. When I went to Africa, I loved seeing all the women with their babies in super bright and patterned slings.
Do you do any of the local craft fairs? I've vended with a couple fairs in Nashville. I've always had positive feedback on my items, but sometimes it's discouraging to go so far to sell a few things. I'm hoping to find out about some closer to home.
I did GREAT business at the Bell Buckle Craft fair, that is once a year.
I set up in Nashville, and only sold one. Yuck! It was a tremendous wait of time and money. It was cold and rainy that weekend. I may try to set up starting next month, and go from there.
I just set up at the Hey Diddle Diddle Children's Consignment shop this last Sun. and Mon. I was suprised when I only sold one, but everyone was looking for bargins, so I could understand.
There aren't too many local craft fairs.
I think I may try consigning in the Murfreesboro Once Upon a Child's Consignment boutique. I would be curious to see how my slings would sell there.
Oh, and I have lowered the price of my slings by $10. I really need to update my website.
It would seem to me like your slings would be a good fit for the Craft people's craft fairs - http://www.myspace.com/craft_creative_co...
I've sold with them and always done well. It seems like the customers they get are not looking for bargains and are willing to pay a bit more for handcrafted items.
Cute dolls! I checked out your slings too Mary. Great idea! Wish I'd knew about them nine years ago. ha. I LOVE crafts and the BB Craft Fair. I think I would enjoy crochet and knitting and I do like to cross-stitch and scrap-book but I'm just not motivated to do any right now. Spring fever I think. But good luck to ya'll.
