Finding backroads

I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but my husband and I both work at MTSU. We're lucky in that we can commute together, it certainly saves us a bit on gas - which is really good.

Anyway, we're always trying to figure out some ways to get from our house to Murfreesboro. We live pretty close to both route 231 and route 41a. We usually tend to take 231 because it seems faster. Lately - we've been trying to figure out some back road ways to get from our house to 231. Our goal is to avoid Shelbyville traffic (not that there is ever a lot...). I took the picture I posted on one such drive.

We usually just take a turn off of 231 and try to figure it out. Sometimes we get to our house, sometimes we get lost. Mostly I get good pictures. I really like run-down barns and there's plenty of those to photograph on Bedford County backroads. I also really like farm animals - probably because I grew up in a city, seeing farm animals is still a complete novelty for me. I think we both really like seeing parts of Bedford County and Shlebyville that we normally wouldn't see.

Nice picture!

We love taking back roads, too! The most interesting thing I have seen on a backroad is a porn shop!

My husband and I could not believe our eyes the first day we saw it! We were driving up to Grundy Co., where my husband is from, and miles from nowhere, there is this tiny porn shop!

Outside, they have a huge Betty Boop statue, posing like the famous Marilyn Monroe (sp?), and they even have their own souped up bus for "parties!" LoL

We asked some relatives in Altamont about the shop, and they said that the town kicked it out. In result, the porn shop moved to the valley, in the middle of nowhere!

We laugh everytime we see it!

A porn store in the middle of nowhere is hilarious. I think if we saw it I would have to take a picture to show my friends that don't live around here!

Yeah, next time we head up that way, I'll get my husband to stop so I can snap a picture.

We always joke about stopping to see what they have, but never have to guts too! LoL

Chantal,

You and your fortunate husband have landed yourselves in one of the most beautiful parts of the United States. There are many, many back roads that are simply gorgeous. If you want a weekend jaunt, try heading south from Shelbyville, go through Flat Creek and meander your way over to Manchester. Those roads have some absolutely unbelievable scenery. Let us know how you like it. The roads from Manchester to Petersburg are awesome too.

LOVE the picture...I love to take pictures and come home and draw from them...We may take that drive this week-end..How cool a porn shop in the middle of no place...I would have to go in and look..At least since it is so far out in no man's land no one will pass it and see our car or truck there..I know how you feel about going in...I hate to go to the abc store to get a bottle of blackberry wine for my cake..I can hear everyone now...I did not know she drank cause I seen her car at the abc store..I do not drink..But you know how things get started..I love Betty Boob.

dmcg - we haven't been out to Winchester yet, so we'll be checking out those roads, if the gas prices don't get too high first.

The Chamber of Commerce office in Shelbyville has Bedford Co. maps available. We also bought a map of Rutherford Co. They really help in getting around and missing the heavily traveled roads.
