I've been trying out new things in my crafting, mostly because of my new Hello Kitty sewing machine (thank you target.com). Sometimes these projects work:
A bunny friend. He needs some work, but he's not bad.
A purse I made from a pattern I got off of Posie gets cozy (an amazing blog, her work is really cool). I'm currently working on another version of this purse with the patches being made from some of the African fabrics my husband has brought back from Gabon for me (seriously, I have tons of it).
Most of the time these projects don't work:
It's a leggless cat creature. I might make him some legs later on tonight and that might improve him.
Birds. I need to work on joining pieces together.
I'm a fairly new sewer, so I'm not really worked up about these things. I definately need help with bias tape - I don't understand, at all, how to go around a corner with bias tape. I keep trying but it always looks wonky.
Anyway, coming up soon-ish is a summer-y hat I'm working on using some of those African prints. I'm thinking it will be very cool.
Also, here's a bonus shot of what happens when I've been cutting out over 100 2.5 inch squares:
Miss Josephine, some of you may recognize her from earlier blog posts. She's great for these sorts of pictures because she doesn't mind having things on her head and doesn't wiggle around when I'm trying to take her picture - that's kind of unfortunate for her. You should make me a bird! I think they're fabulous!
From that look, I am not convinced that Miss Josephine is thinking kind thoughts.
I have to say that I LOVE the birds, too! So COOL!
Miss Josephine is beautiful, and knows how to work "it!" LoL
Oh, and I LOVE the fabric you used for the birds and Miss Josey's scarf! So cute!
Off topic...I am emailing you the lady's number for the craft fair tomorrow, so make sure you look for it!
Mary - thank you. I will keep a look out for it. Miss Josephine certainly does know how to work the scarf. Most of the fabric is vintage, but the green patterned one is from Hancocks (they've been running big sales on their cottons).
Steve - she only thinks kind thoughts, except maybe this time when she might've been plotting to bite me. I still can't understand how someone let her go (she's from animal control right here in town).
Ashley - thanks for the compliments. I'm going to tweak the pattern some more and might possibley have some for sale at some local craft fairs. If not, when you start at MTSU, you could come by my office and steal the one I'll be putting on the shelf behind my desk.
cfrich, I do not know anything at all about crafts, sewing or fabrics, but did you mention a Hello Kitty sewing machine? I would like to see a picture of that the next time you are posting your crafts, if it is not too much trouble.
Also, if it not out of place for me to ask, what do you do there at MTSU?
I'm the administrative assistant in the Middle East Center, it's a fairly new department (about 2 years old) so you might not have heard about it (a lot of people on campus haven't heard of us, yet).
And here's a link to a picture of the sewing machine, please excuse the mess behind it:

Nice birds!
Thanks!
I like your sewing machine, I was expecting pink though. I do not know anything about the campus, except that it is growing. That is a long way to drive everyday. The traffic once you get into Murfreesboro seems to be as bad as the trip there. Thanks for the picture.
You're right about the traffic - half of our time in the car is spent in M'boro traffic. I don't mind the other parts of the drive though, passing by all the cattle and goats farms is still new and fun for us (I guess that's how everyone can tell we grew up in cities).
I really liked the bird one. Am interested in your African fabrics. Are they good quality? Feel different? Also, the quilted purses are supposed to be popular this year. Here are pets for the pooch. She's pretty! Oh, and thanx for the sewing machine pic. I LOVE Hello Kitty stuff!
The African fabrics are of pretty good quality - they're all cottons. The feel of some of them is that they're fairly stiff but once I start using them/wash them, they tend to soften up. I really like them and since my husband never minds bringing me some back...it works out for both of us.
