A tree in my mother in law's backyard.

So, my husband and I were in our homestate of Connecticut over the weekend. We weren't there for a happy reason, but we were really happy to see the leaves changing - there's nothing like seeing the leaves turning in New England in the fall. I wanted to take a million pictures of all the trees - especially after he and I went on a drive to check out all the trees.

Seeing all the trees and seeing our families made me sad. I mean, we were there for my sister-in-law's memorial service so of course we're going to be sad...

Anyway, I just wanted to post a picture of some pretty foliage.

I've wanted to take a trip to see the "real" fall foliage for years, but I've never gotten around to it. It's still on my to-do list. I was in the Smoky Mtn. foothills over the weekend and the leaves really aren't changing much there, yet.

Thanks for the picture and I'm very sorry for your family's loss.

It seems like here the leaves change overnight, there it lasts for about a week or so. I remember one time when we lived in Maine and were driving to CT, we saw all the foliage changing in reverse - where we started all the leaves had fallen and by the time we got to ours moms' the leaves were still green!

This story brings back sad memories for me as well. My sister died at the age of 18 in a car accident. It happened 8 years ago, but it still feels "fresh" every time we have a holiday or the day she passed and her birthday. I still struggle with it immensely. I hope and pray that your family will be blessed in some way during this time of sadness. I'm very sorry for your loss. I do love your picture and enjoy very much the blogs that you post!

Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry for your loss as well. I can't imagine how hard it must be to lose a sibling (I'm an only child, so Missy was the closest I would've gotten to a sister).

I'm sorry about the loss of your sister-in-law.

That is a beautiful picture. My husband & I went to New England several years ago, but we were too early to see such color. I think we went Sept. 20, thinking the leaves would change there much earlier than here. We found out that Oct. is the time to go. Next time we'll know. Thanks for sharing the picture.

You're right, October is the best time for seeing the leaves - although sometimes in Connecticut, you can still see some pretty leaves in November.
