Vote!Posted Thursday, October 30, 2008, at 12:31 PM
This morning, at the urging of my husband*, I went and voted. My vote for president was a really easy choice - I'm sure you've all guessed at my politics, so it's not a hard assumption to make about who I voted for. It's the choices for people running on the state and local level that are really hard for me to make. I tried to research some of the candidates, but it seems like a lot of them regardless of their party affilitions seem to have the same views on a lot of issue (abortion, for example).
The long story short of this is that regardless - you should go and vote on Tuesday (or this afternoon before the early voting period ends). * I tend to put things off to the last minute and he's convinced that on Tuesday it will be a madhouse when it comes to voting. Even though I will probably be disgusted at who the people elect for president this year, it's great to see so many people going out and taking an interest and actually doing their civic duty.
Personally, I've always thought it was important to vote, probably because my parents made a big deal of it when I was growing up. I think too many people our age (because I'm guess we're about the same age) and younger, seem to forget that voting is really important.
Great blog!
Thanks Darrick!
Well I VOTED on thursday and I felt so proud when I was walking out.I was hoping everyone saw my sticker.Back when I was growing up who one voted for was kept among the family only.It is so different from the 60's and the 70's.
You know, RebelRose, that when I mentioned to my friends that I voted early, the one thing we all agreed on was that we felt like we did something important.
I remember when I was little, my dad never really talked about who he would vote for, but my mom always talked to me about it.
