Holiday Fun

This is a picture of my mom's hometown, Thetford Mines. It's in Quebec. I took this picture the Christmas before last - it's where we usually go for the holidays.
I've been kind of quiet since my last post because my mom is visiting! It's been really nice having her here - especially since my husband is in Gabon until after the new year (he's doing research for his next book project, he's a historian - I don't remember if I've ever mentioned that or not). My mom will be staying with me until after he gets back.

We haven't done too much since she's been here other than go shopping and organize things around my house. Mostly, we've just been hanging out at the house and doing crafty things.

My mom lives in Connecticut, so since I've moved here, we see each other only a few times a year. She's thinking of moving down here, so we're planning on spending her visiting checking things out to see if she would like living here. We went to the rec center to check out the activities they have for seniors - she's very interested in what the rec center has to offer. We're also planning on going to the aquarium in Chattanooga, which I'm really excited about, and to the unclaimed baggage store in Scottsboro.

Anyway, I hope that you're all, also, having a good holiday season with your loved ones.

And I hope you and your mom enjoy her visit with you. The picture looks inviting (even though I prefer warmer weather). You have not mentioned your husbands job since I have been reading, but it sounds like a great one. I also hope he is back at home with you soon.

My husband and I recently decided to check out the unclaimed baggage store. I'm not sure what I was expecting but was very disappointed. I've been to many yard sales that were more organized and we thought the prices were extremely high. We enjoyed the day together and I'm glad we went to check it out just don't have high expectations.

That facility in Scottsboro used to be one of the best kept secrets around and you find find awesome bargains there. Now it's basically just an oversized flea-market.

I've actually been to the Unclaimed Baggage twice - the first time I found a really cool (and cheap) fancy formal dress, that I couldn't pass up but have not yet worn. The second time I found nothing, but my husband found a bunch of suits for work. I think it's probably really hit or miss. I told my mom not to have high hopes but she likes the idea of it - and we always joke that since my husband once forgot one of my backpacks on a plane, maybe we'll find it there!
