crafty banter

Posted Thursday, January 29, 2009, at 1:54 PM

It amazes me that even with the start of the new semester that I have been able to continue making things. My husband brought me back a ton of fabric from Gabon - one of which I think is the most amazing fabric ever, so I had to make myself a purse with it.

I'm not really a super sewer, but for my first attempt at trying to make up my own purse pattern, I don't think it came out too badly. Please excuse the mess from my craft room in the background, it's something I keep meaning to organize but never get around to doing.

I also made for my mom while she was here, a purse. It's similar to the one I made for myself at the beginning of fall.

This is one side, the other side if below.

I think that purse must have a square from almost each and every cotton fabric in my stash - my mom went through ALL of my cotton fabrics and cut out about 500 squares to make her purse (she only needed about 80 for one purse). I'm not sure what to do with all the extra squares, I'm thinking either using them to make another quilt, or maybe just make some more purses.

I'm also currently working on a pair of socks - I keep forgetting that since my husband does the driving to work, that it means I can knit in the car...so today I brought some socks I started knitting. I'm also about 4 inches from finishing tubey. I started it the first summer I moved to TN - two years ago! I didn't work on it much last year and have only recently taken it out of hiding. I really hate knitting ribbed things and usually try to avoid any sort of ribbing - but the other day when I tried tubey on and saw how little I had left...maybe one day I'll finish it.

I really like the purse you just finished. It reminds me a lot of the Vera Bradley purses minus the $200 price tag :>)

Good Job

Dianatn -

Thanks. I didn't think of it when I made it - but you're right it is Vera bradley-esque.

4fabfelines - Thank you. i'm planning on trying to sell these purses once I get the pattern figured out better. I think it still needs some tweaking - hence my trip to Hancock Fabrics this afternoon.
