strange dollPosted Thursday, August 13, 2009, at 12:16 PM
In my email this morning was the latest mailing from Bust magazine and inside the weekly mailing was an article about a doll. Not just any doll, this one is a doll (for little girls) that breastfeeds.
It's manufactured by some company in Spain, and here's a link to an article about the doll. What do you think of this? Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

We've tried worse.
I never thought I would be saying this, but I think your idea of implementing this eugenics program is one that we should consider.
Consider it eugenics.
The folks who can't get aroused by anyone they like and respect will die off after a while and the folks who get turned on by intelligence and nobility will latch on to the best of the best and raise the standard for all of us.
First,we remove the sleaze factor imposed on perfectly nice things like sexuality.
Next,we plant the suggestion that things like reading, the arts, fruits and vegetables, exercise, public service, spiritual development,an honest day's work and spending time with friends and family can be intensely cool.
We refer to the presence of peace rather than the absence of violence.
We let people in on the secret that meekness is as un-wimpy as one can get.
If even one generation could get indoctrinated along these lines, the results could be some very unsettling changes in our society.
But,some of those changes (like choosing our partners based on personality and character) might prove to be a lot of fun for those daring enough to give them a try.
LOL memyselfi!!
I like the doll okay. It does not bother me.
QC, If we remove the guilt, shame and obscenity from our sexuality, what would that leave us? We would have to depend on getting to know and appreciate our partners based on things like personality and character. Are you advocating a sinister new form of subliminal birth control for the masses?
you are correct Quantumcat!
It seems more of a technological gimmick than a doll but it wouldn't hurt for children (and adults) to be reminded that breasts were designed for feeding babies.
(Trust me,those knobs on the chest are NOT for adjusting our bass and treble.)
If such a doll were fashioned so it could get a good latch on the nipple and came with breastpump, bottle, bottle warmer, formulae, etc,I might find it a good way to promote a more relaxed and realistic approach to feeding infants.
Such an attitude might lessen oversexualization of breasts.
There might be less embarassment about puberty.
We'd be less concerned about a breast's size and shape.
We'd feel less awkward about breast exams and there might be fewer people who'd accept dying of cancer over having a mastectomy or lumpectomy.
We survived having Barbie appear with a buxom bosom.
Maybe, she'd have triggered fewer incidences of poor self image if her friends had been of various body types and they'd all been anatomically correct.
I'm sure some kids will be thrown a bit by the halter and magnetized pasties.
(Should the "nursing" parents avoid computer disks and pacemakers?)
But,this seems to rank up there with the Skipper that grew boobs when she rotated her arm or the Tressy that grew a waist length fall when one yanked the ponytail out of the top of her head.
If our children have some exposure to how human anatomy actually works,I don't think they'll be too confused.
Too many adults have turned the sight of a breast into a prurient joke and have made breastfeeding a primitive and unclean practice if one does it and a sign of failure if one can't.
Children brought up with a realistic view of breastfeeding might see it as an everyday source of bonding while bottlefeeding offers a convenient alternative and the option of more flavors at mealtime.
Humans ARE mammals and the sooner we start accepting all our body functions as normal rather than shameful, the sooner we'll eradicate one more class of obscenity and be able to respect and celebrate our bodies, minds and spirits.
I'm not against the doll, I just find it weird (possibly because I don't have kids). I don't think kids with enough imagination really need a doll to mimic breastfeeding, though.
I have no problem with it. Obviously any doll can be used to mimic breastfeeding. I see no difference in this doll, that uses what is basically just a set of magnents to activate a sucking action, and a doll that has the same mechanisms in a toy bottle.
