Finished embroideriesPosted Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at 3:40 PM
I realized today that I hadn't posted in a while and that when I did last post, I showed something I had been working on that I have since finished.
It's a on a tote bag that I bought from Sublime Stitching, who by the way has a bunch of super cute embroidery patterns. This took a bit of work to finish, I used some glow in the dark threads in places as a little surprise should I ever use the bag in a dark place. I had originally planned on using it for groceries, but it took so much work, I don't want to wreck it... I also ended up embroidering a bunch of sugar skulls, some with glow in the dark threads, some without. I LOVE sugar skulls! Most of these are going to be turned into spring/summer purses or make up bags - well, make up bags if I can ever get the hang of sewing zippers (any pointers would be much appreciated). I also started and finished, but there's no picture of the finished product, yet...This is on a tea towel with small and smaller Russian dolls going up one side of it. It's part of a gift I'm working on for my mother-in-law. I hope she likes it. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Oh wow!! Those look fabulous!!
Thank you!
I adore your work.
Now,if you decide to try knitting (or piracy) next, you might enjoy this pattern from Urban Threads.

Thank you, quantumcat - by the way, I think I saw you at the Kroger the other night. I didn't say anything because I wasn't sure.
Also, I love that link - since I do also knit!
I wondered if that was you!
(I only got a glimpse and I was trying to catch up with my family.)
I envy you folks who are great at needlework.
My friends and relatives excel at everything from tatting to needlepoint.
(The closest I come to such things is dating a guy with tattoos, riding a horse that had had acupuncture and getting a stitch in my side walking to the Knit Kit to buy skeins for somebody else.)
It's great to see this has not totally become a lost art. I remember my Grand mother and Great Grand mother always doing needle work. I spent many hours as a child doing little projects. All my Christmas ornaments were hand made( by choice, that is until most were lost in our move to Tennessee and I had to quickly replace them)
Keep up the nice work and by all means be sure to pass your love for this on to the next generation, I know I will as soon as my Grand daughter is old enough to learn (my sons never showed much interest lol)
Do you know of any "sewing circles" in the area? If not that could be an interesting thing to be started up.
Nice work. I've not heard of glow in the dark embroidery thread. I need to get out more.
Wonderwhy - thank you! I'm hoping to pass my love of all things artsy and crafty to my kids (once I have some). I do not know of any sewing circles, but I just moved here a few years back and don't know many people in town. If there were such a group in Bedford county, I would be very interested in joining!
@jbllswms - I happened upon glow in the dark thread at Hobby Lobby a while back. It's really fun, I think, to use for projects for other people and not tell them - to see how long it takes them to notice!
I know the Knit Kit and the Fly have needlework gatherings but I'm not sure about other places or what other than knitting, weaving, spinning, crochet and needlepoint might be done at the meetings.
(I'd wager the Fly would accommodate any such craft.)
Oh,and what about the local quilters?
I believe they've had get-togethers in Shelbyville and Bell Buckle.
The Knit Kit has a knitting night, I think on Thursdays(?) but I haven't been as it's usually at a time when I'm still on my way back from work.
I haven't been to any of the knitting Saturdays at the Fly, but I also haven't seen any posted on their calendars lately either.
I'm wondering if there would be enough interest to have some sort of needlecraft day at the Fly - like maybe a monthly event? I know that when I lived in Philly, I joined a local knitting group and we met up once a month at different members' homes and everyone brought a dish/drink and we just chatted and knit all day. It was really fun and meeting people with similar interests was really fun, too.
I think I'll try to make a post to gauge interest on some sort of crafting group.
I love, love, love your embroidery. Also love your sewing. The little dresses were cute. You are a very talented woman. I embroider also, but haven't had the time to do it as much as I used to. With working full time out of town, 2 grandchildren, Zumba class twice a week, and a husband, you know the rest. But you have inspired me to get back to it.
