Big-ish news

Posted Saturday, May 28, 2011, at 8:38 AM

At least for me it's big news, you might now care (and really you shouldn't), but this summer we're moving. My husband accepted a teaching job in Pennsylvannia. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to live 3.5 hours from our moms and 2 hours from both Philadelphia and New York City. With our moms getting older and especially since we now have children, we really wanted to be closer (our moms live in Connecticut).

We'll miss a lot of things about TN when we move - like the amazing mostly snowless winters! I will definitely miss magnolia trees. I'd never seen them in person until we moved here, and they're so beautiful and the smell is lovely. I can safely say that I will not miss the insanely hot TN summers.

And, speaking of the babies, here's a picture so you can see how much they've grown in the just about a year that they've been home:

They asked for a nap, but I suspect they are not tired

they are awesome... i think the move is gonna be great. You can go to Broadway shows.. and do other great cultural events that this small area does not have .. plus the north has such a wider diversity of cultures and people..

The Museums and the Smithsonian..

After Bea's blow up at the Frist, I think it will be a while before we go back to a museum. It was bad.

But yeah, I'm looking forward to taking them to New York City.

Well, don't know you very much, but I do know that it is always nice to be near family, especially with moms as they are getting older. God bless and may you all find much happiness in your new home.

Good luck to you, Jeremy and the kids. I am sure they will adapt without a hitch and with all the love from grandparents, it is no contest.

If I guess correctly, you are also moving to a beautiful part of PA. (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area?) I had a second grade teacher who graduated from King's College.

I would guess the Pocono Mountains are still there and all the beauty that comes with them. The few times that I have been up there, the people were almost as friendly as Southerners. I had to say almost;-).

Have a great life!!

I've only seen the area near the school where Jeremy will be teaching - it looked pretty nice. I'm sad we'll be leaving our house, but it was also an opportunity we couldn't pass up. I'm looking forward to seeing the Poconos.

Oh, actually, Steve I have a question for you - do you have any advice forh lavendar plants? We got one as a gift and it is very fickle.

My plants were fickle as well, right up to dying.

They were divisions from a neighbor and with lavender's reputation for being tough and drought resistant, I probably ignored them more than they could stand.

While they certainly do not like to be kept wet, I think they need to develop a good root system before they are placed in a sunny, dry location, especially here in the South. Even then, they need to be watered well until they settle in.

Where you are going could be more lenient or you could keep them in pots until you find your next home.

Here is a good link for tips from a lavender farm. http://www.sequimlavenderfarms.com/laven...

cfrich, Congratulations! I am happy to read of your future plans. I must admit a little disappointment as well though. I had always imagined that I would eventually see you and your family out somewhere and have the opportunity to introduce myself. Oh well.

The babies are growing. They are beautiful. If you can remember, please forward pictures every year or so to be posted.

Congratulations Chantal!! I know that you'll enjoy being close to family, although we will miss you! Good luck!

@memyselfi - now I'm sad, I had just emailed a couple people in town to see if they knew who you were so I could meet you before we moved. They didn't know who you were...you should email me girlleastlikelyto(at)yahoo, you would probably only run into us at walmart or kroger, or the gym as my husband takes the babies to the gym everyday.

@Cheryl - although we'll miss a lot of things about living here, mostly the small town parts of Shelbyville, you're right we will be very happy to be closer to our families. We haven't lived close to our families since we moved from Connecticut 11 years ago, so this will be a great change - especially for the babies.

Good luck on your move and wish you the very best. I have no desire whatsoever to move anywhere north of Tennessee . . . . if I move anywhere it would be further south or out of the country. :-)

Jaxspike, if it were up to me (and we had unlimited amounts of money, of course), I would be moving all of us to Berlin. But, since that is a dream only...I'll settle for Scranton.

Oh, and tell Pam, Jim, Dwight, and the rest of the gang that "Goober says hey!"
