It's been a wild ride over the last several years and I just wanted to update you on my ventures. Following my days from 1999 thru 2001 in the T-G sports department, I went on to graduate from Middle Tennessee State University in December of 2001 with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education and minors in Coaching and Journalism. After a year working here locally at Titan Transfer, I got my big break and was offered a full-time position at Maryville College. While in east Tennessee, I coached Men's and Women's Tennis and taught a couple P.E. activity classes along with my main duties as Assistant Sports Information Director. I absolutely loved it there. The people were great to work with, the student-athletes were outstanding and the location was ideal being just 15 miles from the Smoky Mountains. However, all good things must come to an end. After three years there, my position was discontinued in May of 2006 due to some significant budget issues in the athletic department. Since then, it's been a scramble, from working for four months at the Boys and Girls Club of Rutherford County to a brief stay as sports writer in LaGrange, GA. In between those two jobs, though, I had the best experience of my life. I was hired as a Spring Communications Intern for the American Junior Golf Association, based in Braselton, GA. I was apart of a six-man team, who traveled around the country to help run junior golf tournaments from March to May of 2007. As a huge golf fanatic, it was incredible to see these talented golfers up close and personal as they will soon become the future of the PGA and LPGA Tours. From the plains of Texas to the deserts of New Mexico, Arizona and California, I'll never forget my great teammates and the rare experience I had to be apart of something so special. So, that leads me to the present. I'm currently working full-time at Cooper Steel here in town and I've been there for about four months. I've obviously been back here at the T-G for a couple months now as a part-time sports writer and it's pretty neat to be back working for and with some very familiar faces. I'm now looking forward to settling in here and once again having the opportunity to cover all the great sporting events in and around Bedford County. It's good to be home. Welcome back Chad. Isn't interesting how we leave, but come back to the town that supposedly has nothing to offer its young people. Actually it offers a lot, but we sometimes can not see it until we leave. Hope you are able to do as you say, settle in.
It'll have even more to offer with someone who's worked with youth here to be one more mentor and role model.
Welcome back,Chad!
Welcome Back! Hope to see more of the excellent coverage of MTSU Athletics you did in the past. (Times-Gazette Football Preview with Dewone Hicks on the cover) Take care and keep up the great job.
Wow!! I didn't realize you traveled and worked so much with sports and youth! I think it's great! Welcome back! It's been a pleasure working with you at Cooper!!
