...And they don't go unnoticed.

Following the horrific tornado damage in Lafayette a few weeks back, the Macon County High School basketball teams were forced to host their Senior Night on the road at Cannon County after their gymnasium was damaged during the storm. Not a problem…the community of Woodbury responded and stepped up bigtime. The school welcomed their fellow Tennesseans with open arms and raised over $3,000 for several of the storm victims and their families. Those 'several victims' were actually a majority of the players on the basketball teams, whose families were obviously directly effected. As a result, the players' families were able to divide up the money and use it towards the rebuilding process. Hats off to the Cannon County school officials and the community of Woodbury for a good deed that will go a long way to helping Lafayette recover and rebuild.

On Super Bowl Sunday a couple weeks ago, Phil Mickelson lost in a playoff to J.B. Holmes at the FBR Open in Scottsdale, AZ. Not a problem, he stepped up bigtime on the 3rd hole and it had nothing to do with golf. He gave away his two tickets to the Super Bowl, which was just up the road in Glendale later that day, to a father-son duo that was following his group. Now you know why I've always been and will continue to be a huge Phil fan. He stays hours following his rounds to sign every last autograph, does countless amounts of charity work and greets his fans with a smile everywhere he goes. Tiger Woods is the best player in the world and will probably go down as the best ever...you can't do anything but respect that. Phil, however, may be the most personable player in the world and his massive galleries wherever he is playing proves it. And he's not too bad of golfer himself...i.e. his 33rd career win Sunday at the Northern Trust Open and his current No. 2 world ranking. He's fun to watch, but most definitely easy to like. Thanks Phil for a good deed that will go a long way for a family that will now have some very special memories for a lifetime.

Just last week, I hit a deer (actually, the deer hit me!) and I totaled my car. As a result, my car broke down in the middle of nowhere, but a man named Keith came along and stepped up bigtime. He waited with me until the deputy arrived and was a huge help. Thanks Keith for a good deed that went a long way and saved the day for me personally.

It's amazing what one good deed can do!

Oh, I have a great deed to be noticed. I lost my wallet several weeks ago and the father/son team at Quality 1st Carpet Cleaners found it and drove all the way out to my house to return it to me! I called and thanked them profusely, but here's a great place to thank them again!!

I agree with the previous bloggers. This story is a breath of fresh air!

I don't watch the news either. I get all I need to know from my husband who keeps up with all that smuck.

Better to stay positive, then waste your life worring about what is going to happen!

I hope everyone blogging will read this one. As christiangirl said, it is good to hear these positive comments amidst a sea of negative from the national press.

I have gotten to the point that I rarely watch the Nashville or National news. Except for the names changing, it is basically the same. Someone got shot, blown up or stabbed, political news, the sky fell somewhere in the country and if not our country then somewhere else, the economy is bad, etc.

Maybe that is why the saying came about, "remember the good old days". We never heard all the other crap. The T-G seems to balance it well. More local, less national.

It's so good to hear of people reaching out to others. Especially when you see and hear such negativity today. Good story!
