Hello. I am back in the big city after a very long day yesterday in RURAL South Korea. As I was loving it the first couple days, my opinions of this country changed dramatically as we moved into the rural areas. Although beautiful, the men there see themselves as very much superior to women (putting it mildly). We spent the entire day eating ginseng and were all about sick by mid-afternoon from that. We went hiking, which was beautiful, but at the conclusion of the hike I had to eat a bug. Yuck! I felt like I was on Fear Factor. The hotel we stayed in last night was a brothel -- no joke. Needless to say, I am VERY glad to be back in Dae Jon where we are treated with kindness and respect. The food here is also much better in that at least there are some "western" food options (although not many). Thanks for listening -- I am still not caught up on rest so this roller coaster ride is currently in a low valley:-)Tonight's agenda sounds ok and tomorrow, too, so no worries... I will get rested and feel better soon. SKF

Sadie,
Hang in there. Try to get as much rest as possible. I hope your team leader was able to negotiate a rest day every 10 days or so. Any chance to recharge, take it. Have they seperated the team or are you all still together?
Remember that there will so many great experiences that the bug meal will be something on which you look back and laugh.

A trip like this is going to have ups and downs. Hang in there.
Curious about your statement of eating ginger all day. I new it was used a lot for flavoring or medicinal, but were you literally eating ginseng by itself for some reason?
You might feel the same way about garlic soon. And what about the insect? Care to expound on that?
Every day is an adventure, or so my mother used to say.
Sounds like you are having a wonderful experience, Sadie. It will be something you will remember your entire life.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Would you like for me to send you a "Care Package" maybe KFC or McDonalds?
