Flexible Party RulesPosted Sunday, June 1, 2008, at 10:11 PM
The plot thickens!!!! I think it is rather ingenious how the Democratic Party rules committee took the easy way out and moved to seat Michigan and Florida and give them only half a vote. I watched the motions and process and I never heard the total popular vote awarded to anyone, but Ms. Hillary immediately claimed she had the majority in the popular vote. Imagine that!
It is unimaginable to think the press never mentioned the fact that the Democrats in Michigan and Florida took themselves out of consideration at the convention. Voluntarily!!! This action was accepted by Ms. Hillary and her "people", yet she now decides the poor, down trodden and unsophisticated in the two states didn't know what they were doing and she must save them. Also never considered by any pundit I have ever found is the fact that there were many other candidates running in Jan. at the time of the primary votes in these States. In accordance with the rules, none of them campaigned in either state. All except, guess who, Ms. Hillary removed their name from the ballot in Michigan. Had Edwards, Biden, Dodd, Richardson, Kucinich and Gavel as well as Obama campaigned vigorously in these two admittedly critical States, the dynamics of the entire process might have been completely altered. Also not reported widely is the fact that in the caucus states, four I believe plus a portion of Texas all won by Obama, the popular vote is not counted in Obama's popular vote totals. So much for fairness and unity in the Democratic party. Even with the eventually of the above, Obama still wins. So what is Ms. Hillary to do? As I have stated previously, my opinion is she will not be VP. For many reasons but importantly, she and Obama just don't even like each other personally and she knows the President can assign the VP to funeral duty if he so chooses. There is no way her ego and sense of entitlement to the Presidency will allow here to accept such a subservient position. So what will she do? I believe she will, in a back room of course, deal with the Party so she quits and promises to back Obama. The spin will be she is so wonderful and thinks only of Party unity rather than herself. I believe she will insist on a quid pro quo such as the majority leader of the Senate. Since she is on the record many time saying Obama cannot win, she would use this position of leadership in the Senate to thwart all initiatives of President McCain so as to make him look totally ineffective and she could then run in 2012. This is the only scenario in which she could likely ever be elected President and I am convinced she is so ego driven she thinks she is due the Presidency. If you think she would not drag the Country down for four years just to make herself look good, then I suggest you have not viewed her actions and record very closely. As is obvious to most people who care to look, the Clinton's don't have much of a record in maintaining the loyalty of many of their former appointees, friends and political allies. Just look at the former Clinton supporters who, as super delegates, have switched to support Obama. Wonder why? The Clinton's record on holding up their end on a quid pro quo is rather dismal. Check out the California case of Paul vs. Clinton to see just one example. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Wow . . . someone sure does have an active imagination and a whirlwind of conspiracy theories.
BTW . . . it is not the fault of the voters of Florida or Michigan what a few leaders in their Democratic party decided to do in moving the primary date. Why should the voters be punished for the actions of a few. We should never deny anyone the right to vote or say their vote doesnt count.
jaxspike,
Conspiracy or not, it was pretty convenient. Aren't you a tad tired of all the political spin that has been happening for the past 10 years? From the 2001 election debacle in FL making George Bush the president instead of Al Gore to having John McCain (GW Bush part 2) possible President.
Plus it is pretty darn amazing to see this Barrack Obama go from a Nobody to President in a mere decade. Simply amazing and surprising to say the least. And no I do not endorse him nor am I voting for him.
In other news... Has anyone heard the repeated mistakes John McCain has made in talking about Iraq? LOL... Buddy, if you're going to make some political move and visit the war ravaged country, you ought to at least be able to come back and make some sense of it.
That's all we need is another president who makes more mistakes than he cares to correct, or at least admit to.
I'm still waiting for that Dark Horse canidate to show up - just like Lincoln did back in the 1850's.
Ron Paul would rock.
I think anyone would beat McCain....
Yes, but is Obama any better than McCain. I really didnt think so . . . there is more than just one path to making this country worse and Obama and McCain each would have their own path to weaken this country.
I have no idea how you can come to that conclusion...
Hillary (though I love her) has a lot of baggage and a long history of changing with the wind.... I do not however, understand how you can take 55 delegates and give them to a man who's name was not on a ballot. There is no place for such B/S in this country.
The DNC obviously doesn't remember the year 2000, when a small group of folks took Al Gore's win and gave it George Bush in FL.... They are proving themselves NO better than the rank and file scandalous Republican Party of FL.
They (DNC) are proving themselves NO better than the rank and file scandalous Republican Party of FL.

That surprises you?
The reason Obama wasn't on the ticket was because no delegates were supposed to be awarded. Since the DNC flip flopped on that decision it seems fair that the delegates be split.
Yes, it does surprise me. I know why he wasn't on the ticket. So no, it's not fair to just give him 40% of the vote, when UNCOMMITTED is a legitimate choice and can receive delegates... UNCOMMITTED could have meant, hmm, Hillary or Obama, or Edwards, or whoever else didn't put their name on the ballot.
So if 40% voted uncommitted how would they have split the delegates among the uncommitted? How many actually voted uncommitted?
Hmm, well since there were more than just Obama who's name did NOT appear on the ballot, and just because Hillary's did, doesn't mean she wouldn't have gotten some of those votes... They should have divided the remaining 40% between the two, since they were so happy about only allocating HALF the total delegates from each state... Right?

Well I don't see how anyone would have voted uncommitted if they wanted to vote for Hillary since she was on the ticket. The uncommitted vote in Michigan was 39% so I guess they gave it all to Obama. If the DNC was going to try to dictate when Michigan and Florida could hold their primaries they should have stuck by their decision and not seated any of the delegates.
This is quite interesting:

Which one knows how to manage money best? This shouldn't be a surprise on who faired worst, he said it best, "I don't know that much about the economy..." Be sure you vote for someone who spends money more responsibly! Or those who won't bankrupt the country (again and again)
I agree darrick_04! : )
Ditto that!!!
Maybe we could give Al the presidency that was stolen from him earlier.
If he could harness the hot air in Washington into some sort of geo-thermal power source and look past all those petrified dinosaurs for more fossil fuels,we might have an end to our energy shortage.
If he put a freeze on pork-barrel spending and saber-rattling,the chilling effect might even help our global warming.
