More on Media Bias

As we go forward into that messianic ritual of determining our next President, one hopes the Media will treat both sides equally and will allow the truth of both sides to have equal coverage. We know though that is a pipe dream, unfortunately, for such has not been the case by the mainstream Media for many years.

A few examples:

The unemployment rate just rose to 5.5% in the last few days. Terrible. Did you know the unemployment rate averaged 5.8% during the "prosperous" Nineties?

In mid-April Obama was endorsed by Ahmed Yousef, Hamas leader. He said, "We like Mr. Obama and we hope he will win election." This might be worth knowing, don't you think?

Barbara Boxer introduced legislation a few days ago to raise the gasoline tax 53 cents to fund environmental legislation. This contemporaneous with her Party lambasting that dastardly Bush for being responsible for high fuel prices! Go figure.

Michelle Obama's statement of not being proud to be an American for 44 years was reported only barely. Her statement, "Barrack will never let you go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed." Do you find it rather condescending of her to tell us we are all ignorant because we are uninvolved and uninformed? Don't you think this statement is worth reporting?

When Hillary was in Iowa early in the year, she proudly told the farmers she was in favor of NAFTA and that as self-appointed Deputy President she worked to get it passed. Then in Pennsylvania in late Spring she told union workers she doesn't like NAFTA and worked as Deputy President behind the scenes to try to keep it from passing. Isn't this interesting? Maybe an indicator of character?

Obama and Clinton both campaigned in "rust bucket" states against NAFTA and said they would withdraw from the treaty unless it could be renegotiated, then sent surrogates through back channels to Canada and Mexico to tell them not to worry, they wouldn't do it. Such actions don't infer the lack of desirable character traits?

Most of the above was mentioned in the mainstream Media if you care to dig it out, but only I think to be able to say they did it, not to see that people were informed. A good example of informing people was in the election of 1992 when VP Dan Quayle misspelled potato by placing an e on the end. From May to November, the mainstream mentioned it 56 times. Last month in Oregon, B. Hussein Obama said, "It's great to be in Oregon. We have been in 57 states and have only one to go." Bet you haven't seen that one reported.

Talk about media bias. How about the media's bias toward G.W. Bush? He has been given a free pass for most of his 8 years as President, yet he has proven to be one of our worst Presidents ever.

MY WORD'S EXACTLY!!!!!!!!! Our media has not questioned ANYTHING he has done. They have sat by his side, and only reported what he and his officials wanted reported. We can't even see the flag draped coffins coming in everyday from Iraq, because it's "disrespectful"... They have catered to his every whim for 7+ years, and now Barack and Hillary have received news for about 7 months... Carl, you're the type of person who would only get your news from Fox News anyways, and we know they aren't "Fair and Balanced"...

Are you kidding me? Fox News, the Replublican smear machine, reports all of those things on a daily basis.

B. Hussein Obama? That's a low blow, Carl. What are you trying to imply by referring to him that way?

-- Posted by Richard on Sun, Jun 8, 2008, at 11:10 PM

How on God's Green Earth can calling someone by their Name be a low blow?

Carl didn't name him!!! His Parents Did!

That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard of in my entire life.

If he was ashamed of his name I am sure he has more than enough money to change it!

-- Posted by Dianatn on Sun, Jun 8, 2008, at 11:24 PM

Well he's not ashamed of his name... But you and I both know the ONLY reason Carl eludes to Barack's middle name... RIGHT-WING FEAR MONGERING... We've seen this same SICK mentality for the last 8 years Diana and you know it.

Nobody, including you ever say H. Rodham Clinton or W. Jefferson Clinton do we? Nobody ever Says G. Walker Bush, J. Sidney McCain or B. Jean Spears...

You know why he purposely writes B. Hussein Obama, because he thinks the rest of Bedford Country is incapable of understanding his last name has NOTHING to do with the former dictator we took down, nor any alleged terrorist mastermind... It's a sad attempt to discredit someone for their ideals and persona because their last name sounds like the people our government has made us fear...

A name that scares me more than ANY is Bush, Cheney, Rice, or Rumsfield... ALL guilty of war crimes, and NOBODY has done a thing about that.

Absolutely pathetic. It's people like you who don't hear Obama's message because you're too concerned with his name. Bush and company were never worried about the last name Hussein until the man they loaded with arsenal and money seemed like a great excuse for vengeance...

ANYWAYS, since this topic is about the biased media, let's take a look at who owns the national media conglomerates...

It isn't called the Military-Industrial Complex for nothing...

-TV-

General Electric media-related holdings include television networks NBC and Telemundo, Universal Pictures, Focus Features, 26 television stations in the United States, and cable networks MSNBC, Bravo and the Sci Fi Channel.

Time Warner is the largest media conglomerate in the world, with holdings including: CNN, the CW (a joint venture with CBS), HBO, Cinemax, Cartoon Network, TBS, TNT, America Online, MapQuest, Moviefone, Netscape, Warner Bros. Pictures, Castle Rock, and New Line Cinema, over 150 magazines such as Time, Cooking Light, Marie Claire and People.

Time Warner services 17.9% of all cable subscribers, gaining 3.5 million subscribers from its joint aquisition of Adelphia with Comcast. Time Warner now has 14.4 million cable customers (plus 1.5 million held in partnership with Comcast).

The Walt Disney Company owns the ABC Television Network, cable networks including ESPN, the Disney Channel, SOAPnet, A&E and Lifetime, 227 radio stations, music and book publishing companies, production companies Touchstone, Miramax and Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar Animation Studios, the cellular service Disney Mobile, and theme parks around the world.

News Corporation's media holdings include: the Fox Broadcasting Company, television and cable networks such as Fox, Fox Business Channel, National Geographic and FX, 35 television stations, print publications including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, TVGuide, the magazines Barron's and SmartMoney, book publisher HarperCollins, film production companies 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Blue Sky Studios, numerous Web sites including MarketWatch.com, and non-media holdings including the National Rugby League.

CBS Corporation owns the CBS Television Network, CBS Television Distribution Group, the CW (a joint venture with Time Warner), Showtime, book publisher Simon & Schuster, 27 television stations, and CBS Radio, Inc, which has 140 stations. CBS is now the leading supplier of video to Google's new Video Marketplace.

Viacom holdings include: Music Television, Nickelodeon, VH1, BET, Comedy Central, Paramount Pictures, Paramount Home Entertainment, Atom Entertainment, publishing company Famous Music and music game developer Harmonix. Viacom 18 is a joint venture with the Indian media company Global Broadcast news.

-RADIO-

Bertelsmann AG is one of the world's largest media companies, with substantial holdings in Europe and North America, including: book publisher Random House, international radio and television station owner RTL Group, music publisher BMG Music Entertainment, and media firm Gruner+Jahr.

Cox Enterprises, whose subsidiaries include Cox Cable, Cox Television and Cox Radio, controls 80 radio and 15 television stations, 43 newspapers, and several publishing companies. Cox also offers broadband Internet access and digital phone service; as of 2007 it had six million broadband customers and 2.3 million digital phone subscribers in the United States.

Clear Channel Communications is the largest owner of radio stations in the United States, operating 1194 stations in the United States and 240 stations internationally. It also owns or operates 40 television stations in 25 media markets nationwide.

Morris owns 27 daily newspapers as well as 28 non-daily newspapers, city magazines and free community publications in the Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and Alaska. It owns 36 radio stations, and has holdings in the areas of outdoor advertising, book publishing and distribution, visitor publications and online services.

Entercom owns and operates more than 100 radio stations in 23 markets in the United States.

Emmis owns 23 radio stations in the United States and another six abroad, two U.S. television stations, nine magazines and a book publishing company.

Cumulus Media owns and operates 313 radio stations in 60 markets in the United States.

And 5 other large media conglomerates...

So you see, the media is owned by a few corporations who have merged numerous times throughout their history... Pretty soon, it will all be owned by one or two people and thus we will need to roll out new monopoly and anti-trust laws..

Dianatn,

I wouldn't expect you to understand.

He didn't refer to anyone else by their first initial and their middle name, indicating to me that he was trying to emphasize Obama's middle name for a reason. I think that's pretty obvious.

It's fear mongering, and so is the comment about Hamas. I think a lot of Americans, myself included, are sick and tired of this type of politics.

You want Media Bias, fear mongering? Here's some for you...

What is a low blow to B. Hussein Obama? That's his name. The mainstream don't want to use that though. You all had better wake up and see what's going on.

-- Posted by cordell on Mon, Jun 9, 2008, at 10:13 AM

You go Carl, keep on telling it like it is.

-- Posted by cordell on Mon, Jun 9, 2008, at 10:31 AM

Ok first off Hillary's middle name is not Rodham it is her maiden name her middle name is Diane. I am sure she wouldn't mind if you called her by it either.

Nor do I think any one of the others you mentioned would cry foul if you used theirs either.

I wonder how John Fitzgerald Kennedy felt being referred as JFK instead of his name...if he didn't aprrove nobody would have ever known because he sure didn't go around crying about it.
