I have wondered over the last several decades why my generation missed the sexual revolution by several years. My generation was of teen years and early twenties in the late 50's and early 60's. The sexual revolution began by most reckoning with the "free love" activities of the hippies in the late 60's and beyond.
In my generation the boys knew everything and the girls were naive and knew nothing! (Boy, it didn't take long to figure out how wrong that was.) This being so, I have researched and analyzed the situation for many decades to determine why we missed out.. I have come to the conclusion we missed out on the revolution, and the revolution itself was delayed at least ten years due to two, at the time, innocuous inventions. That is a very interesting observations, is it just an idea or do you think there is more to it?
Evil Monkey........The proposition is a little tongue-in-cheek,but a little serious also. I have thought about it a fair amount over the years and I believe these two dang inventions cost me a chance to participate. Thanks for you interest and comment.
Well, I know it was being serious as I was too. What other ideas come to mind? I love history and I like to see others talk about their side of it.
You forget girdles and the very strutured hair-dos.
How much excitement can one inulge in (revolting or otherwise) while imprisoned in Lycra or having to keep a D.A. or beehive in perfect order?
(Crewuts and Mamie Eisenhower pixies might have allowed a little more adventure.)
It took shag-covered vans,natural hair and the abandonment of foundation garments to start the new regime.
Dashikis,knee-high hose and shoes one can actually put back on after removal offered freedom.
Unfortunately for the rowdy folk,they also fostered common sense and modesty.
I hear the corset has come back along with the use of a lot of hair product.
Fuel eonomy and safety concerns are removing vehicles one can stretch out in.
Maybe these trends will encourage chastity as much as the revolution we missed out on challenged it.

I've never before heard Mamie Eisenhower used in the same sentence as anything having to do with pixies.
