Candidates

Posted Saturday, June 28, 2008, at 5:41 PM

I don't believe I have ever lived in a more spiteful and partisan political environment. I don't know how we got here, but we are in big trouble if we stay here long. This is especially true on the National level and more so than ever on the State level as well.

To get past this phenomena, it seems to me, we must take a different view of candidates and look beyond the Party labels and rhetoric. Many candidates, if not all, ask us to listen to them as they tell us what they will do. Never mind it is probably just what we want to hear. The problem lies in the fact they are most likely to do as they have always done and not what they say they will do. I would urge all citizens to look past the little letters past the candidates names and look at the candidates themselves.

At the moment, the "hottest" race seems to be for President. I have said before no man is qualified in all facets of what it takes to be President. So the criteria I look for is character, wisdom and leadership ability. Parties be damned. Character is rather obvious but wisdom is ill defined. I'm like Justice Potter Stewart when he ruled on pornography by saying "I can't define obscenity but I know it when I see it." So I am about wisdom. Wisdom to me embraces intelligence, life experience and education, although not just formal education. Also it implies to me a certain analytical ability.

Having demonstrated these abilities, although the candidate may be expert in some area, he should be able to attract the best minds in ever field of endeavor that affects the people and involves government. The candidate as President would seek counsel from these folks and with leadership abilities he should be able to convince Congress to act in the best interest of the people.

All behavior scientist agree that the best indicator of future behavior is past behavior. So, please, please look at the record to determine their likely actions in the future and try to decide which one can lead in a manner such that experts in all necessary fields will be willing to work with them. And remember, the least likely indicator of what they will do is what they say!

Carl:

Best Blog I've seen in the recent past. I can tell what your thinking at this moment, the same as I am. I moved to Shelbyville in 1994, and to this day, I only know less than 12 people since I've been her.

I've lived 60 years and seen our country decline every 4-5 years. I must point out that in your statement, the word Behavioral is a key word. What is the new generation thinking. Oil price is not increasing because of supply and demand, but Commodity Traders hedging prices. It would be different if the trader made his bid, and a truck pulled up and said, "Here's your 2000 barrels of oil you traded on". No, they sold it on the market, and never owned it. Same with all commodities. Farmers lose and traders win. Traders don't WORK Farmers DO! The key word is Productivity.

Warren Buffet: the man who almost destroyed the Great British Pound currency in 1982. Now he Shorting the U.S. Dollar. Friday's good U.S. news, drove the Dollar down another 100 points. Who? Buffett. Is this man a hero like everybody thinks, or a rich thief. U.S. Law prohibits trading against the U.S. Dollar according to the CFTC Commission. Who is enforcing the law? No one.

Today, some Chinese investor paid over 2 million dollars to JUST have lunch with Buffett. Absurd!

California: Gay Marriage: 4 Supreme Court Judges disenfranchised 4.6 million voters. Do our votes count? It's not about Gay marriage, but "The Will of the People".

Our coming election: Obama, what does he stand for? From what I have observed, higher taxes and redistribution of wealth. Smooth speaker.

Mc Cain: Weak campaign. War hero. Is he another Bush? We don't know. Cindy Mc Cain, owner of Budweiser. Billionaire.

Our Congress: One of the lowest approval ratings in history. Lower than Bush. A bunch of Millionaires that make laws and campaign against them. Nice business. Congress duties are to only tax the populous to support the government, and benefit the people, according to the U.S. Constitution. Seems like the Constitution is becoming more meaningless as time goes by.

Presidential candidates are only going to tell us what we want to hear, to get elected. What will they do when they are elected. See our last elected officials and their performance. Doesn't look good. I don't run my business in this manner.

The Fed: Bernanke: He has millions of dollars in stock options. When he retires, he will cash them in. Conveniently the U.S Congress passed a law that his stock income IS NOT taxable. I pay 5 taxes every year. Sounds like the Coyote guarding the Hen house. Fair?

If you want to really want to know where we are going, Google "The Money Speech", by Fransisco ' de Arconia. I'm afraid that if our government thieves are not stopped, after the Looters have looted enough, and no more to steal, that's when the guns come out. Readers, please UNDERSTAND the Money Speech.

I trade Forex Currencies, and have contacts on ALL continents. Everybody is in the same quandary. The problem is Governments. Also, I have worked on 5 continents and know how these Governments operate.

What can we do about it? 1 million opinions. The problem is citizens losing control of their inalienable rights. Readers, you decide if you are intelligent enough to see what is happening. You want the money you earn to be redistributed to someone you don't know, or object to? Think it won't happen? Keep up with the daily news instead of arguing about local blogs. I'm not the most intelligent person, compared to some, however, I have lived this so-called American Dream all my life. Waste upon waste, upon waste.

Carl, whether local people agree or disagree with your statement, you hit the nail on the head.

Thanks for your insight on this topic, because of our near future is at hand, and in Shelbyville, and in the U.S. Government.

Since 2000, the dollar has lost 40%. Why?

Boston Tea Party, This war was fought not because of today's hot topics, but over the Governments treatment of people and Taxation.

Just my Dollar's worth: $63.55 cents.

My wife and I had a similar discussion the other day. I have thought about running for public office and what scares me is that it seems people start out wanting to change the world and do all the right things. Every time they climb the political ladder somebody is giving them a little money to get this done or get that done, by time they reach the Presidency are they totally corrupt and power hungry, not caring for what the people think. Or is it possible to make it to the senate, congress or presidency and still have values. By the actions of our leaders I am beginning to think not. They are totally out of touch with what the people want or the best intrests of this great country.
