Political Ramblings

Well the race for President seems to be heating up as the final days are in sight. It seems as though Obama's PR firm, the US mass media, is shirking their responsibility to report the news. They clearly are supporting Obama. No one can seriously argue such is not so. TV networks, most large city newspapers, most national news magazines and most cable news networks are overt supporters of the Obama/Biden ticket.
I have noticed as have others I'm sure, several commentators of the T-G blogs are supporters of Obama. Some of the more vocal, I think, are for anybody not remotely connected to Bush. I detect in some comments a visceral hatred for Bush that is unhealthy and immature in my view. Several support Texas Congressman Ron Paul, I like many of his positions myself, but since he has no chance as the Libertarian candidate, they support Obama. Strange in a way since Bush is a Texan also, could that be construed as a connection to Bush? The part I have trouble with is there is an ideological chasm between Paul and Obama that I don't see how anyone can leap. To profess this position I think cost them some credibility and fosters the notion of an anything but Bush philosophy.
As a student of the process, I try to be through in assessing candidates. As such I cannot believe people would want someone as President of the United States who had, at minimum, sat on a board of an organization funded to the tune of $55 million plus with William Ayres, an admitted domestic terrorist who overtly considers himself a communist, "with a little c." Someone who had as Pastor and mentor, Jeremiah Wright, for 20 years who is obviously, violently anti-American and arguable anti-Christian. Also involved heavily with Tony Rezko, a Chicago slum lord Obama defended and accepted assistance in running for the Illinois Senate, US Senate and also purchasing a house where Obama presently lives. Rezko has recently been convicted of several felonies with a flavor of political corruption in his convictions. Obama refuses to wear a flag lapel pin. He has refused to salute, by placing hand over heart, the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. His wife was something other than an American, by her own admission, until recently.
I suggest people recognize, for good or ill, George W. Bush is not running for President! One person (Obama) is who Bill Clinton, Hilliary Clinton, Joseph Biden, John Edwards and many others of his own Party have said repeatedly, is not qualified to be President! His friends in the press, his PR firm, have religiously blanked out his life from about age 8 until graduating from Harvard Law School. They have not looked into the Chicago Annenberg Challenge's record of the 5 years he was Chairman of the Board serving with William Ayres. These records are now made unavailable by the University of Chicago. This action is probably illegal as the work was of a nonprofit Foundation. Also, as is well known, Obama was an instructor, not professor, at the University.
Our great Country needs strong leadership at this time. Perhaps as strongly as any time in our history. Please think long and hard about one who has only a vision and in 4 years in the US Senate has not brought up and championed even one of the stable of ideas that he says is his "vision." Look past the economy or just foreign affairs or just defense issues or just terrorism and measure the man who is best suited to lead in all areas and don't just vote for someone because you are irate at someone else. Such negative, back door reasoning cannot be good for our Country. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Carl,
I agree completely with you. A pure hatred of Bush along with an economy that is linked to this administration, and promises from Obama to every group he can talk to will get him elected. With these and the media that are in the tank, we have no chance to change the situation. This very questionable unknown will occupy the most powerful position on earth.
Besides this, if the Dems get a large majority in the Congress, we can look to passage of every liberal legislation that can be thought of. I don't look forward to this, but the only "positive" that will come of this will be: when these youths who are greatly backing Obama finally mature out of their idealism, they will be the ones who will have to pay the bills.
I have to agree on the sheer fact that I get a subscription to Rollingstone magazine which is suppose to be a music magazine but it seems every issues is an Obama lovefest for almost ten pages while they coninue to demonize McCain as the next Bush while really stating just their personal opinions and not much facts. I didnt realize I bought a subscription to a political magazine or I wouldn't have wasted my money on such bias reporting. It is sad really . . . they dont discuss the issues but yet they try to influence the minds of their reader.
Oh well, they wont be getting any more money from me and I will stick with Blender who does their job, focusing on music.
Oh lord, the faithful members of the church of obama are going to get yall.
I understand US District Court Judge R. Barclay Surrick, the federal magistrate for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, has ordered Mr. Obama present his valid, original certified birth certificate, a certified copy of Obama's Certificate of Citizenship and a certified copy of Obama's oath of allegiance, all within a three day time frame.
A fellow democrat, Philip J. Berg, has sued to make sure he is actually qualified to hold the office he seeks. Should be an interesting next few days. The mainstream media is avoiding this story like the plague. If his certifications are lacking, what will happen? This could be a landmark decision for all involved. It is interesting to me that a fellow democrat is the one filing suit.
I long for the day when people will educate themselves on the actual issues and stop treating elections like college football games.
Wow, all of this from someone who wrote a blog titled "Bipartisanship...
Guess what, your method of attack isn't going to work. Just ask Hillary.
It saddens me that our country is in such a mess right now and a supposedly astute character as yourself wants to play Karl Rove tactics. Please, get over your incessant fear of much to do about nothing.
Btw, Obama now leads 53-45, and Palin's unfavorable ratings have doubled. ;)
Some independent analysts now have Tennessee, Louisiana, West Virginia, and South Carolina as "toss up" states. Who would have thunk it? Bout time.
It's Over: Why Bill Ayers Won't Save John McCain
Perpetually fretting Democrats will not want to accept it. The campaigns themselves can't afford to believe it. Many journalists know it but can't say it. And there will certainly be some twists and turns along the way. But take it to a well capitalized bank: Bill Ayers isn't going to save John McCain. The race is over.
John McCain's candidacy is as much a casualty of Wall Street as Lehman or Merrill. Like those once vibrant institutions, McCain's collapse was stunning and quick. One minute you are a well-respected brand. The next you are yelling at the messengers of your demise as all around you the numbers start blinking red and stop adding up.
McCain's road was difficult to begin with: the President of his party has had record-low approval ratings for two years and the number of Americans who say the country is heading in the wrong direction is stratospheric. He also had the misfortune to be pitted against an exceptional candidate running an extremely well-executed campaign.
Still, before Wall Street's collapse Senator McCain was ahead. His approval ratings remained high, his VP pick had generated excitement and interest, and his campaign operatives were capable, on any given day, of winning news cycles and giving their opponents fits. And then the underpinnings of American capitalism begin to sink -- and with them sunk McCain.
An election dominated at its inception by the war in Iraq is now overwhelmingly focused on the economy. More than half of voters in polls say that the economy is their top concern and Senator Obama enjoys double digit leads among voters asked who can better fix our economic mess. Put simply, there is no way Senator McCain can win if he continues to trail Senator Obama by double digits on the top concern of more than half of voters.
State polls are beginning to reflect this. If the election were tomorrow, Obama would win all of the states John Kerry carried and add Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, Virginia, Nevada, Ohio and Florida. Barack Obama is campaigning in Indiana, which last went for a Democrat in 1964 and North Carolina, which has gone for a Democrat only once in thirty-four years. At the same time John McCain has pulled out of Michigan and Sarah Palin has been forced to visit Nebraska.
This dynamic is very unlikely to change. John McCain's goal in the first debate was to discredit Senator Obama as a credible Commander in Chief and elevate the issue of foreign policy and national security. He didn't come close. Absent a domestic terror attack the economy will remain the number one issue in the race, and there is little Senator McCain can do to make up his gap with Senator Obama on it. Oh, Senator McCain will try to make issues of Bill Ayers and Tony Rezko and Rev. Wright, and that might hurt Senator Obama around the margins -- but it will not prevent him from winning. The economy is simply bigger than the rogues gallery that John McCain is conjuring up.
Why is this? Why won't the swiftboat tactics work this year?
Its easy to lose sight of it in the day to day coverage, but the collapse of Wall Street in the last weeks was a seminal event in the history of our nation and our politics. To put the crisis in perspective, Americans have lost a combined 1 trillion dollars in net worth in just the last four weeks alone. Just as President Bush's failures in Iraq undermined his party's historic advantage on national security issues, the financial calamity has shown the ruinous implications of the Republican mania for deregulation and slavish devotion to totally unfettered markets.
Republicans and Democrats have been arguing over the proper role of government for a century. In 1980 voters sided with Ronald Reagan and Republicans that government had become too big and intrusive. Then the economy worked in the Republicans' favor. Today the pendulum has swung in our direction. Republican philosophies have been discredited by events. Voters understand this. This is a big election about big issues. McCain's smallball will not work. This race will not be decided by lipsticked pigs. And John McCain can not escape that reality. The only unknowns are the size of the margin and the breadth of the Democratic advantage in the next Congress.

My opinion is this, if Obama has nothing to hide then he presents the required documents and he settles the issue and he gets the last laugh and makes everyone look like a fool that questioned his credentials.
So why is it a big deal? It looks more suspicious when people hide and dont answer the questions directly and up front.
Seems simple to me . . . but hey, my view is just one of reason and of a moderate who isnt brainwashed to the rhetoric of either side.
jaxspike,
It is no different what Palin is doing? Seems that both sides are guilty of this.
Of course Ron Paul has no chance as the Libertarian candidate, because he is not the Libertarian candidate.
Look at how the Republican Party treated Ron Paul. They laughed at him, attacked him, and portrayed him as a nutcase. They deserve to lose the election just for that.
"Look past the economy or just foreign affairs or just defense issues or just terrorism"
Apparently, the Republicans want us to look past all of that and more. Because then we might realize that on every major issue, John Mccain's policies are no different than the policies of George W. Bush.
I have been saying that all along Evil Monkey . . . we expect that from the Republican party but the Democractic party this time around seems to pull from the same playing book as the Republicans but yet spout rhetoric about hope and change but yet their actions speak louder than the words.
I think Ron Paul and the very far left have more in common than you may appreciate at first glance Carl. They have admittedly different ideologies, but share a lot of ground on matters of foreign and specifically economic affairs. I think most of the social leaning crowd is willing to take whoever they can get that may address any one or two of their concerns (or even begin moving in that direction), regardless of motivating ideology.
Carl, Carl, Carl.....cry a handkerchief full.
I so glad that McCain has all the answers, is the PERFECT American, and will slove all of our problems!
Thats why I am pushing the button for Chuck Baldwin in Nov. I cant see any other choice, plus Ron Paul has endorsed him. You get a liberal democrat with McCain, and a flat out socialist with Obama.
You get a liberal democrat with McCain, and a flat out socialist with Obama.
Posted by greasemonkey on Tue, Oct 7, 2008, at 1:12 PM
You got the last half of the sentence right.
McCain seems to be a liberal to me because of several things. The McCain-Feingold act, which among other things would silence conservative talk radio, he also voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment to define marriage as a being between a man and woman. He has a very liberal stance on illegal immigration, going so far as to meet with some radical immigration groups such as La Raza.
I cant support a candidate I dont believe in or believe has the countrys best intrests at heart. I will not cast a vote for the lesser of two evils, especially when I cant tell which evil is lesser.
First just because Obama was on a board with Ayers does not make then "buddies". Also don't you get it this is such a change the subject tactic. Mcain is behind in the polls because of the econony, his outlook on the warN and because Palin is too much of a "hockey mom" to be a competent VP. They are doing the only thing they can by attacking Obama's character and the fears of close minded Americans who are scared of what is different. Its about time this country had a taste of different.
The only way the Republicans could have one is by nominating someone with real conservative values. John McCain was probably the worst possible choice, and I think this probably is a "change the subject tactic". Although, fearing Obamas radical alliances does not make someone "close minded", these are things from his past that everyone needs to know. His "buddies" are one more reason he is unfit to lead this country. We do not need a leader with so many ties to leftist radicals and terrorists.
I don't know what does or does not make them "buddies". I am more concerned about what does or does not make them "political allies".
I don't get it, people say Obama and a domestic terrorist are "BUDDIES", while others defend Obama for that same relationship. I on the other hand know this for a fact, if i hung from a tree and ate bananas all day people would say i was a monkey. If i lived with skunks, people would say smell like a skunk. Also, if i robbed banks, stores & other people, all of you would call me a theif. If it walks & quacks like a duck.... GUESS WHAT ? !! IT'S A DUCK !!! If you vote for Obama and turn a blind eye to all these facts about Obama. All i say is if he does get elected you get what you deserve, because when things get way outta hand in the coming years it's on you.
Also, if i robbed banks, stores & other people, all of you would call me a theif.

If you did those things, then yes, I would call you a thief. But if you were an aquaintance of someone who committed a robbery 40 years ago, would it be fair for me to call YOU a thief?
McCain was born in Panama Canal Zone; there was always a question as to whether he could be president. Also, Barry Goldwater was born in the Arizona territory, before it was a state - questionable that he could be president also.
Richard, according to your statement above, you are comparing robbery to domestic terrorism. That is terrorism in the USA.The board of a nonprofit organization on which Sen. Barack Obama served as a paid director alongside a confessed domestic terrorist granted funding to a controversial Arab group that mourns the establishment of Israel as a "catastrophe" and supports intense immigration reform, including providing drivers licenses and education to illegal aliens.
The co-founder of the Arab group in question, Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi, also has held a fundraiser for Obama. Khalidi is a harsh critic of Israel, has made statements supportive of Palestinian terror and reportedly has worked on behalf of the Palestine Liberation Organization while it was involved in anti-Western terrorism and was labeled by the State Department as a terror group in 2001.
Obama was a director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, according to the Fund's website. According to tax filings, Obama received compensation of $6,000 per year for his service in 1999 and 2000.
Obama served on the Wood's Fund board alongside William C. Ayers, who is a professor in Illinois & a member of the Weathermen terrorist group which sought to overthrow of the U.S. government and took responsibility for bombing the U.S. Capitol in 1971.1970 the group issued a "Declaration of a State of War" against the United States government, under the name "Weather Underground Organization" (WUO). The bombing attacks were mostly against government buildings, along with several banks. Most were preceded by communiqués that provided evacuation warnings, along with statements of the particular matter to which their attacks were allegedly as response. For the bombing of the United States Capitol on March 1, 1971, they issued a statement saying it was "in protest of the US invasion of Laos." For the bombing of The Pentagon on May 19, 1972, they stated it was "in retaliation for the US bombing raid in Hanoi." For the January 29, 1975 bombing of the Harry S Truman Building housing the United States Department of State, they stated it was "in response to escalation in Vietnam."[2]
If you keep company like that what do you expect ?
They haven't just gone away. Nice try on the thief & 40 years thing, if you make real bad decisions early in life they do follow you til you die. Obama should have to amswer for his affiliations whith all these people. Not performing good background checks & keeping up with illegals is what let 9/11 take place. Also those people were in the USA training for their deal when Bill Clinton was in office......

Very true.
And for every dollar that could have been spent on preventative measures during the time they were training under Clinton would have saved 100 dollars having to be spent now to try and regain control of our defence.
It was a molehill when Clinton took over and he let it grow into a mountain for Bush to inherit and have to tear back down.
Much like Clinton hailing to have everybody move into homeownership with no money down and virtually no credit and leaving the mess that now has to cleaned up.
Richard, according to your statement above, you are comparing robbery to domestic terrorism.

Actually, I was using the comparison that you gave, and I notice you didn't answer my question.
Obama was eight years old when those bombings took place. By the time Obama served on a charity board with Ayers, Ayers had become a distinguished professor and a respected, prominent figure in Chicago.
I don't know you, but I'm willing to bet that if I did a background check on every friend and co-worker that you have ever had, I'd find some dirt on at least one of them. But why should I assume that it reflects on your character?
It's classic guilt by association. It didn't work for Hillary, and it especially won't work coming from someone like Sarah Palin, with her connections to witch doctors and an anti-American political party.
Radicals and terrorists should be kept out of public office at all costs in my opinion. If given the opportunity, they could bring their cronies into their administration to run rampant and have disastrous effects to our civil liberties, economy and world standing.

Even if the "domestic terrorist" phase of Ayers' life is far enough in the past to be moot, he carries forward those "liberal" ideologies that were the impetus to those past actions. For a lot of conservatives that equation balances (dt=l). Just for the record I am devan and I don't approve that message. However, the Republicans would be derelict in their duty not to use it to gain an advantage in the election. The farther left they can move him the better they can bring into question his judgment.

Richard,
There were a lot of 8 year old radical muslims that will not pledge allegiance to our country that watched the twin towers take almost 3,000 of us down to the ground with it and will one day serve with the culprits that will later "appear" as distinguished and respectable.
I hope one of these litlle 8 year olds is not running for president years from now and capable of another great deception as we have today.
jesuslovesevery1, Yes, the current Bush administration is one I was referring to, but I think there have been many others before his that promote radical ideas and terror. I do not think either party has cornered the market, but sadly Bush has apparently achieved what many have only dreamed of. I just hope the latest reality of USNORTHCOM that came to fruition on Oct. 1 (I wonder why this was not all over the news?) will be the last (and possibly crowning) achievement of the Bush legacy, and that there are no other surprises.
parkerbrothers, What deception do we have today?
If you are in the deception you will not know what the deception is. Are you deceived?

HAHAHAHA !! The way i see it, once a terrorist ALWAYS a terrorist !! What an ignorant quote you left above. At least we know what flavor COOL-AID your drinking. Everyone knows that there are alot of professors at universitys all across out country that lean the way of the radicals & the far left. One deserves the other, "In my opinion". They preach that left agenda because they know the youths in these schools are somewhat open minded, therefor we end up with truly onesided uneducated socialists. Also, just because Obama was 7 when the bombings were going on, does that mean that if Hitler was still alive, him and I could be "buddies" and it wouldn't really matter about his past... Just keep listening to Michael Moore & P Diddy, wow what great role models for the children of tomorrow. Its amazing to me how if McCain came out last January and said he was a Democrat over 3/4 of the people bragging on Obama would be bashing him. VOTE ON WHAT HE HAS & WILL DO NOT WHAT HIS PARTY IS !!!
If Ayers and Obama have done such a good job, why don't all the Obama cronies move to Chicago and see how wonderful of a place it is... That will definately change many, many of your minds... Also, you keep saying Obama was 7.... You misunderstood me. Obma has been in contact with Ayers recently, Ayers has been having fund raisers for Obama... Apparently the BIBLE AND CONSTITUTION of the UNITED STATES doesn't mean a thing to you....
I have always wondered why universities lean so far to the left. I guess it must be because that's where all of the under-educated people congregate to wallow in their ignorance of the systems we live in. University professors should not be pretending that they know anything about what they are commenting on. I bet they are all brainwashed, how completely un-American. I can't help but to feel sorry for all the helpless students, that have a good head on their shoulders going in, being subjected to their incoherent ramblings and fantastic tales of democracy.
Memyselfi,
You summed it up... Sarcasm = priceless.

Here is a clip of Thomas Muthee, an evangelist from Kenya, laying hands on Sarah Palin, asking Jesus to bring finances for her campaign, and protect her from witchcraft. Sarah Palin praises this guy, and actually credits him for helping her become governor, with this blessing.
What does Thomas Muthee do when he's not helping Palin become governor of Alaska? He literally hunts witches. Seriously.

You're comparing William Ayers to Adolf Hitler. Now you are just being ridiculous.
William Ayers practiced UNcivil disobedience... Adolph Hitler practiced mass genocide and xenophobic ethnic cleansing... There is absolutely NO similarities between the two.
Is it the laying of hands that bothers you or the praying for protection against witchcraft?
Hitler killed alot of people because they were different than him and had different beliefs. Ayers & his people were bombing his own people on his home soil. Thats where my example was aimed. I figured i would spell it out for ya.....
I am more worried that the democrats and media ignore the fact of his associations with Bill Ayers, Rashid Khalidi, Jeremiah Wright, Rev. Michael Pfleger. I could ignore it if was just one. but 4 radicals is more than just a coincidence. the Dems just brush it off as do the media. What worries me is that this is a pattern with this man. And it goes on with his staff, which means it gets his approval. He would continue this as President. This also gets approval by the democrats in Congress just because he is USING the title of Democrat.....
THERE IS YOUR TRUTH & NO ONE WANTS THE "CHANGE" OBAMAS COMPANY IS FOR !!!!
It certainly will be interesting to see who Big O picks for his cabinet. I heard that he had promised secretary of state to John Kerry, Ayres would make a fantastic secretary of defense, dorn could be secretary of education, Revrum Wright with his vast intellect could fill almost any postion they put hin in. The possibilities positively boggle the mind. The reverend Jackson blew his chances of a cabinet post though when he spoke of commiting a surgical procedure on the One. Before anyone ruptures a blood vein from my comments, this is only sarcasm...... But would it not be an interesting scenario?
