Cobb v Blanton IV

Posted Tuesday, October 28, 2008, at 3:49 PM

Things have been rather quite re this race of late. I wonder what is to come? My sources tell me Mrs. Blanton will come with mail pieces at the last minute when it is too late to rebut. These messages will be negative of course, since all others have been. I suggest you ask yourself, after weeks of campaigning, why this is necessary. Could it be she cannot stand up to scrutiny so she must make sure no one can intervene with the truth? Think about it.

Mrs. Blanton's one supporter here on the blogs, ok, maybe one of a few, one Fairfieldtiger commented on my civility blog, about the one hundred forth-fifty or so comment, about Curt Cobb. Seems someone, and I emphasize one, has filed a complaint against Curt Cobb for an ethic violation. Imagine that!!! After 6 years of representing upward of 60,000 people, someone has complained!! The complaint alleges Curt had this man audited because he was mad at him, I guess. How would you like to prove that one? Turns out, according to people in Lincoln County that are suppose to know, this person had a court case ruled against him several years ago by Curt Cobb's farther, Judge Ty Cobb and he has been on a vendetta since. I suggest Fairfieldtiger consider what would he/she feel like if some minor went to the sheriff of Lincoln County and alleged Fairfieldtiger had molested them. Could happen. Charges are easy and meaningless until validated. Show me convictions.

I hope I am wrong about the barrage of negative mail pieces to come. I just received one from the Republican Party that was a positive, issue driven piece outlining Mrs. Blanton's support of the 2nd Amendment. Nice. I am glad she is an NRA member. The NRA gave Mrs. Blanton a B- rating when she was a legislator which is quite good. Curt Cobb, by the way, received an A+.

I just recieved a piece of mail that was all about how bad Blanton was, and it wasnt from any candidate. I think it was from the Democrat Party, but it didnt say.

I voted for Cobb because I personally know he is a good person who really values this community and tries to do what is best for us. Blanton has ran a very negative campaign that has not been based on a lot of facts.

We just received a negative mailing about Blanton from an anonymous source. It looks as though its the Cobb supporters who have made the last-minute negative mailing and its the worst I've seen - from any candidate in any race. We've also had to replace our Blanton yard sign that was pulled up and shredded over our yard (in the cover of darkness, of course).

I see the most negative campaign tactics coming from the Cobb campaign, and you see Blanton's tactics as negative. I suppose it depends on your candidate as to how you view things. Could your opinion be slanted???????

oneamerican......I have not seen the piece you refer to but I'm sure I will. I just know Curt Cobb well enough that he will not ok nor sanction any negative ads. I hope you realize that Curt Cobb cannot know, nor control all who claim to be his supporters just as Mrs. Blanton cannot. The difference here is the pieces I discuss on this blog are pieces Mrs. Blanton's campaign sent and of which she is responsible.

I have tried very carefully to outline the exact pieces and exact statements of Mrs. Blanton's campaign that are negative. Please point out the same for me from Cobb's campaign, not pseudo-supporters.

Interesting your question...."Could your opinion be slanted??????"

You seem to be saying you can support your candidate and slant information anyway you would like, but I cannot "slant my opinion" to support who I know to be the best candidate. Interesting.....

Wow. The author, mr. civility himself, has stooped to a new low. I simply posted the information about the ethics complaint filed against Cobb. The same information that was printed by a couple of other area media sources, including the Daily News Journal in Mboro and NashvillePost.com. The Times Gazette, which is probably read by more voters in District 62 than any other pub, has decided that the voters don't need this information. Not surprising, media bias is alive and well in Bedford County.

In the past few weeks the author has called me feeble minded. He has inferred that I am so uneducated as to not be able to understand his profound postings. Now he has singled me out while referring to an unspeakable act. All of this for speaking my mind and disagreeing with his opinion. The point of most blogs is to encourage conversation on current topics. The author seems content to use this blog as his personal negative attack machine. My reasons for opposing Cobb's candidacy are philosophical. I support low taxes, less government involvement in our daily lives, and a strict interpretation of the Constitution. In my well researched opinion, Blanton will represent my views. Cobb's voting record indicates a close alignment with the Democratic party; the same party that has nominated Barack Obama, a man whose socialist views will set this country back 200 years.

Yeah, I haven't gotten any negative literature from any anonymous source . . . I got something from Cobb a few weeks ago but it was from his campaign and then I received a few calls and was invited to a chili supper or something.

My view isn't slanted . . . I just vote on who best represents me and don't pound me in the head with negative misleading ads. Plus I wasn't too impressed with what she did during her time in Mississippi. And no, I am not voting just because she is a Republican . . . just voted for Jim Tracy so that rules that out.

Maybe your opinion is slanted because someone vandalized your yard and you just assumed it was some crazy Cobb campaign tactic. There are a ton of Blanton signs at the beginning of our road and nothing has happened to them.

I meet Jim Tracy at a Casscade Football Game. He seems to be very nice and I liked him alot.

If we got set back to 1808,we'd be in time for:

The end of importation of slaves

The first land grant university

The first practical typewriting machine

Anthracite coal as an "alternative fuel"

The perfection of tap dance

Napoleon as a significant world leader

Walter Scott, Francisco Goya, von Goethe, Christopher Marlowe and Beethoven are leading lights in the arts in Europe.

The great military secret is vacuum packing of food in jars.

William Bligh (notorious as the tyrannical Captain of the Bounty) is ousted from his post as governor of New South Wales.

This time, the coup resulted from his protest against the military's use of rum as currency.

The people could not make purchases with the rum but had to drink it (or make LOTS of rum cakes.)

The Hispanic newspaper "El Misisipi" begins publication.

Thomas Jefferson recommends James Madison as his successor to the Presidency of the United States.

(Madison may be best known for two things: his defense of the separation of church and state and his wife,Dolley, who served as First Lady under widower Thomas Jefferson before her husband was elected as Chief Executive.)

Reverting to such a period would put us in time for several political, cultural and scientific milestones during the heydeys of many influential individuals.

We might use our awareness of the timeline to reap the benefits of living in such a period.

Or we could try taking advantage of the opportunities our present offers to create a future that would owe as much to us as we owe the people of 1808.

I wouldn't mind much if we got set back 200 years if it meant we got to vote for Madison.

He was not a perfect man.

(In his declining years,he attempted to "revise" his documents to put history in a better light.)

He did help shape our constitution and our history when both were taking the form that would bring us our greatest success.

May the leaders we choose two centuries later make similar positive contributions,

For someone that researched something thoroughly; you sure are missing a large peice of Socialist type behavior from a Republican Administration. Can we say Bailout? Oh and Let's not forget the "Patriot Act" You know, the one that removes all our rights as citizens, like wiretapping, can search your house without warrants etc. Wouldn't that be more in line with Communism? Who voted that crap in? OH lets, see, OH Republican Administration AND a Republican-led Congress. So you can't be stating something that is Socialist when you support Communism.

To me this is the worst part of this blog! I have read and re read the articles partaining to Cobb and the complaint. I understand people are for or against Cobb. But I can not for the life of me understand why anyone would use this comment to prove a point?? What you are suggesting is FAR WORSE an allegation than that filed against Cobb. Molestation is not something to be taken lightly. While I do understand the point you're making,I believe that Curt Cobb explained his actions in the articles enough that comments like this are completely unnecessary.
