And Capitalism Too

In 1776 the Constitution and capitalism had their genesis as fraternal, nay, conjoined twins, and have walked in lock-step to bring us the great Country we have become until recently. It appears both are in grave danger. We now have a leader who said not so long ago when addressing the public about the Supreme Court, specifically the Warren Court, "it didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers and the Constitution."

Mr. Obama obviously sees the Constitution as an impediment to his grand vision. This leads to the potential demise of one twin. His firing of a major company CEO and avowed policy to control compensation of all others, strikes a mortal blow to the other.

The grave danger in firing the CEO of General Motors is not the action of removing just one person from their contractually held position. The great danger is the precedential value of such an action. Our legal system operates under the theory of "stare decisis" which means we accept as standard that which has been decided before and that such decisions will rule future actions. If this firing is left unchallenged it will have the de facto effect of granting permission to the Government to interfere and control any and all businesses.

The most telling blow and saddest of all in this situation is most folks apparently don't care, for where is the uproar and the voices for democracy and capitalism?

Q'cat.........Thanks for the comments......cerebral as always....I appreciate the comment on acting...I was beginning to wonder if anyone had ever seen me in any production.....You are the first to mention.

Carl's there when we need him whether it be as a pundit or an actor.

Carl,I think you're right about setting unfortunate precedents.

What one person can implement with wisdom and good will,another can employ with disatrous results.

Keeping our leaders in line is one safeguard but the rest of us have a responsibility to avoid inviting excessive measures (whether they be "witch hunts",suspending civil liberties or taking control of business matters).

If we aren't VERY careful about disciplining ourselves,we'll wind up with "conservatorship",at best.

Whether the takeover would come from God,the government or whoever,we will either behave like responsible adults or we will be dismissed as unruly children.

The Powers That Be will have less excuse to invade our lives if we work and play appropriately.

We need to demonstrate that we're too mature to require a nanny.

So,folks,let's not offer any incentives to take control away from us.

Don't make them come down here.
