Questions......?????
Posted Monday, August 24, 2009, at 5:27 PM<< Previous | Read comments | Respond | Email link | Next >>
1. Is there a left-wing conspiracy?
2. Why do pro Obama supporters at town-hall meetings have professional, printed signs and anti folks have crude hand made signs? 3. Should a President have the right to fire the CEO of a Company? 4. Should a President have the right to dictate to a Federal Court (Bankruptcy) the exact findings the Court will rule, even before the Courts has seen the facts? 5. Should the government furnish and control all health care in the US? 6. If the Congress is to tax so called "Cadillac" health care plans, why does Congress exempt itself and labor unions? 7. How can a minister run for the Dist. 62 seat in the state House of the General Assembly when the Tennessee Constitution forbids a minister from being a member of the Gen. Assembly? 8. Can you respect one who said, three years ago, in a town hall meeting, "I thank all of you who have spoken out for your courage, your point of view........Your advocacy is very American and very important.....There is nothing more articulate, more eloquent to a member of Congress than the voice of his or her constituents.......I'm a big fan of disruptors, people who make change," and recently said such behavior is "un-American" and "evil." 9. Why does Obamacare mandate the VA hospitals pressure all veterans to sign DNR orders? 10. Why are union thugs, primarily SEIU, employed to provide security and "bodies" at the town hall meetings of many leftwing Congressmen/women and Senators? 11. Why does Tennessee, after vetting one thoroughly, grant a gun carry permit then institute statutes where one is not considered capable of carrying in certain places? Why does this not apply to off-duty police officers who are not investigated any more completely that permit holders? 12. Why is the Iraqi war vile, illegal, and unnecessary and the war in Afghanistan is noble, legal and necessary? Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |
Near lifelong resident of Bedford County. Will comment on the issues of the day in, hopefully a cogent and certainly an honest manner. Will propose discussions not usually fully addressed in the mainstream media.

7. You ask about a minister running? Tell me sir do you think this is the first time in recent history that a minister has ran for the 62nd seat in the state house of our General Assembly? You need to check the opponents of the Honorable Clarence Phillips.
Catina.wentin.......I do not think this is the first. There are ministers now in the Legislature. I just point out a typical disrespect for the Tenn. Constitution.
1. No
2. I was at the MTSU town hall meeting tonight, and just the opposite happened. It was baffling to me to hear all of the senior citizens griping about "socialized medicine" while being the largest beneficiaries of said system. See what fear does to these people?
3. Only if that company agrees to be funded by taxpayer dollars, and then fails to achieve what the CEO agreed to accomplish.
4. Huh?
5. No, and the government doesn't seek to. Notice the anti-reform ads? Imagine that money being spent to cover the uninsured... well yeah, hundreds of millions in television ad's is more economical.
6. No idea who is "exempt" but nobody is going to be forced to use government funded insurance. If employers see fit to go that route, then maybe capitalism isn't as self-sustaining as it claims to be.
7. Good question.
8. There are a lot of .... in between words.... indicating there is more to those quotes than the brevity posted.
9. There has yet to be a bill proposed, and mandating such a thing, will not happen.
10. Have you been to any of those in particular? All I heard tonight was yelling and taunting when "pro-reform" speakers began to make their case. It was honestly hysterical to hear this psycho babble b.s. from the very folks who either currently benefit under the Medicare system, or would enjoy lower health insurance costs if a large provider stepped into the game.
11. Who knows? I thought you all were for local governments being in control of their counties rather than big federal government interference? Maybe not?
12. Neither were started by the current administration and the latter of the two is where the terrorists' who attacked us, lived.. Iraq was linked into this war by nothing but frivolous jargon.
All in all, good questions.
In all honesty darrick_04, since senior citizens are the largest beneficiaries of socialized medicine as you say then that would make them more experienced and have more first hand knowledge at how badly the government has managed Medicare and Medicaid and maybe that is why they are trying to convince others not to follow suit. I think I would be more inclined to listen to them then I would someone your age with limited life experience.
I am not trying to start an argument here or be sarcastic . . . if you really think about it, they already have experience with this type of health care and I know many who are not pleased with it. Even social security is about to run out of money and look at other government systems like the post office that are in the red. What makes us believe they will do any better with the supposed public option?
As far as conspiracies, if one believes the right is more "noble" than the left then you are disillusioned. Both sides have an agenda and will do whatever it takes to promote it, It is easy to say that the Republicans are for family values or that Democrats are for the working people but in reality we are presented by politicians who make it career and are more focused on creating wealth and power for themselves. Sure, we get a Mr. Smith once in a while but unfortunately those few who really try and make a difference and represent the will of the people fall prey to the sharks of both parties. While I didn't vote for Obama, I do believe he is a good person who is trying to do what he think is right but unfortunately he has fallen victim to the far left special interest groups and has allowed politicians like Pelosi to dictated his agenda.
I agree with derrick_04 on the CEO question . . . if you ask for taxpayers dollars and as the government to prop company then you should be subject to government intervention and if the CEO is doing a poor job then he should be let go. I believe however that the government should have never bailed out these companies in the first place and should have allowed the system to sort out the strongest and weakest links and rebuild from there.
As far as ministers, I never vote for someone who has been a minister because I think it is a conflict of interest for both the person running office and for government. A minister is less likely to represent all the individuals of his assigned area due to his devote beliefs and will try and push his particular beliefs when it comes to laws and legislation. I also think it is unwise for a minister to be in a political setting like that which involves compromise and thus the minister would have to compromise some of his beliefs to be an effective politician.
In regards to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, all wars are vile and violent but sometimes they are the lesser of the two evils that are options. I think many will agree that Afghanistan is the more urgent of the two wars and its outcome will provide a greater reward if won. In my opinion though, neither war will provide us with any defining answer at the end and we will still be left with questions unanswered and loved ones lost. I don't know if that is worth continuing the fight.
Just my opinion on the main points . . .
Dear Mr. McClanahan:
A fellow could spend days, or weeks, attempting to fully answer your quiz. Still, there would be discord among those reading the answers.
One fact is certain, however: the injustices and inadequaticies you so profoundly put forward will not cease so long as we allow ignorance a vote.
Also in regards to health care, all one has to do is look to the VA administrations and their hospital and see how badly the government manages them.

Tell me again why you want even more government involvement in healthcare? These aren't myths . . . these are real situations and real problems.
VA administration and their hospitals is what I meant to say
Ignorance is found only in those less informed. We must educate ourselves on both sides of the fence, in order to choose which side to jump off of.
I think too often in politcal "talks" such as this one, readers get heated over comments and remark with incorrect and/or inaccurate opinions. Carl did not post this blog without doing the research first. Maybe readers who are commenting should do the same. And if you find that something is incorrect, then by all means point it out and site your (reputable) sources so that NO ONE can challenge you.
jaxspike,
One problem.. Those people were ANTI-reform.. as in they didn't want ANYTHING whatsoever to change about their health care. Which tells me, those people are sufficiently happy with their coverage (by wanting no changes made) yet selfish because they don't believe anyone else should be given access. I am not for a single payer option, but those whom I witnessed criticizing single payer option to a "T" were those who didn't want any changes made, to their single payer health care. Just strikes me as being wholly uninformed and armed with fear and scare tactics.
I agree with several of your thoughts on this blog, btw.
Singling out mistakes made at the VA is silly. I say this because VA hospitals, just like all other hospitals in the world, are staffed by humans that make mistakes. You probably don't hear about the mistakes made by private hospitals because they settle out of court for millions of dollars in exchange for silence.
The reality is that the VA provides some of the most thorough and timely treatment performed in a manner that exceeds the level of service one would expect at a civilian hospital. With the exception of the few mistakes you googled up Jax, most veterans are happy with the service they receive at the VA. Have you ever received treatment at VA hospital Jax?
Darrick_04, I think you may have missed some points here. Your opinions are yours and you are entitled to them, but I fear some of your assertions read to me as you believe them factual, yet I would challenge you to support them with documentation from reliable sources. As you know by now, most folks don't question my facts as I present them. Of course I am not nearly infallible and could certainly make a mistake. You may champion a position in opposition to the inferences I draw, but the facts are the facts. Follows a response to your comments. Some factual and some opinion.
1. Cap and trade, health care reform, abortion rights, no secret ballots at Union organizing elections, activist jurists all lead by the famous Troika and their followers yet no conspiracy? Hillary has harangued about the "vast right wing conspiracy," for several years and said it again just a few days ago. You or I one don't know the definition of the word conspiracy and the issues espoused by the left.
2. I hardly think the anecdotal illustration on one meeting at MTSU can trump the many, many cases published by various media supporting the point I made.
3. I recall the General Motors CEO was fired before they received any stimulus dollars thus having no chance to accomplish anything.
4. Obama outlined the exact terms of Gen. Mtrs' bankruptcy and the ownership positions before the case was ever submitted to the Court and as you will recall, this extremely complex and huge case was in Court for only a few days. I say that supports my statement.
5. While there are now several "reform" bill floating around various committees in the Congress, the original Obama bill, 3200 in the House, would have resulted in, after 5 years, in all probability a single payer system. That single entity would be the US government. Obama has stated loudly and often he favors a single payer system. That is the government controls all health care dispensations. Platitudes to the contrary........
6. The original bill seeks to tax those who have very lucrative health plans. An amendment has been offered to exempt Congress and Unions. Included is the public service union, the UAW. Public service since we own 70 or so percent ergo they are government employees! By the way capitalism is self-healing but only if certain idiots would give it a chance.
7. Ok
8. Darrick, I think you know I would not take something out of context to support an argument. The undeniable fact is Pelosi said and meant those in the exact context I present them in. I challenge you to document an argument that says otherwise.
9. On July 2nd this year a pamphlet "Your Life, Your Choices," written by Dr. Robert Perlman, an advocate of assisted suicide, was sent to all VA medical practioners. This piece is biased by questions to go over with patients to lead them to the conclusion that life may not be worth living. All VA practioners were told in July this year to refer all veterans, not just end-of-life veterans but all 24 million, to this booklet. Sorry, Darrick. The bill may not have a "death panel" by name but supports the notion of an end-of-life panel and requires end-of-life consulting on non-terminal patients. You do agree the VA is in the US Government's Executive Department? This material is sourced from a recent Wall Street Journal story with further sources "checking-out" the arguments and facts presented in the article.
10. I have seen many examples from multiple sources where people in SEIU t-shirts are providing security and controlling who gets in the door to the meeting.
11. Huh? My time to scratch my head. Nothing I said is controlled by the Federal Government and local law cannot trump state law, for good or ill.
12. I can't help but laugh as you seem to know better than many of the most experienced and best minds in the country. You used to be factual and maintain that most of the 9/11 terrorist were Saudi, which is correct. You used to take the position the Iraqi War was wrong because they posed no threat to us. What has Afghanistan done to us? You are surely making a stretch trying to support your man.
Btw, I am a VA patient.
Anyway, thanks for your comments.
And I still maintain that the people on those planes were Saudi, but the guy responsible for "the plan" resides in Afghan not Saudi Arabia. Iraq, never has and to this point never will pose a threat to us, because they were simply incapable. The only thing that was stretched was accusation the former president made. What is that I claim to know better than any of the most experienced and best minds in the country? It seems the most experienced and intelligent minds in the country maintain their positions that Afghanistan is a war worth fighting.. though I disagree, but the former president was more concerned with Iraq, as the funding dollars and troops levels in those countries reflected.
It's obvious you dislike Obama, just as I had disdain for the former president. The only difference is, I gave Bush a chance. I never complained about his policies or tactics until after his first term. You and your friends, want Obama deposed after 8 months in office, because apparently it is your crowd who expected miracles, and now are whining because he hasn't performed any.
Darrick....check your drivers lisence. Nearly 9 years ago, when Bush was elected, you were in Middle School. But you are entitled to you opinions so keep them comming, just some of your statements and positions and the reasons and time frame cost you some credibility. Have a great day.
I do not believe for one minute that "organized" liberals won Mr. Obama the White House, though a large amount of organization to get out the vote did take place. I place the blame for this inexperienced baffoon being our president squarely upon the conservatives who stayed home rather than go to the voting booth. Now this thought brings us to the core issue...voter apathy. We have arrived at where we are in this country today for no other reason. People have not cared for years. In a recent election right here in Bedford County, a population of about 30,000 people allowed roughly 2,800 decide the winner was going to be. (Sheriff's election) Excuse me if my numbers are off a little bit, but I think that's pretty close. Now I am a staunch supporter of Sheriff Boyce and I voted for him, but the point of this is that a county of roughly 30,000 people allowed about 2,800 to decide for us who our sheriff was going to be. Now multiply those numbers by millions and you'll find that while we have the power to hire and fire our elected officials at the voting booth, we don't care enough to take the time nor the effort to do it. We just want to complain about the results.
In 2004, there were a total of 121,069,054 votes (between the two main candidates) with George Bush winning the popular vote by 2.4%
In 2008, there were a total of 129,391,714 votes (between the two main candidates) with Barack Obama winning the popular vote by 7.2%
Summary:
+8 million more people voted in 2008 than 2004. Ironically enough 8 million is the difference between Obama's larger popular vote in 2008, and Bush's popular vote in 2004...
+McCain had a net loss of 3 million "conservative votes" when compared to Bush in 2004 [59 mil/62 mil]
+Obama had a net gain of nearly 11 million votes when compared to John Kerry in 2004 [59 mil/69.5 mil]. This is an unprecedented shift in votes.
Total votes for 2008:
Obama- 69,456,897 vs. McCain- 59,934,814
Not arguing the semantics, just putting the numbers out there as proof that there was no voter apathy... even if McCain had received every one of the votes Bush won in 2004, and you subtract that from Obama's total... Obama would have still won by more than 6 million votes. Voter apathy would indicate an overall decrease in the amount of voters, not an increase :)
