The election is upon us with early voting over this Saturday and voting at all precincts next Thursday. I wish to address the Mayor’s race.
Mayor Eugene Ray is a friend of nearly 50 years. I have never heard such lies told by candidate(s) in a local election. A couple of days before Mayor Ray chaired the last Commission meeting, I heard a certain candidate told many people that Mayor Ray was in a nursing home and on a feeding tube. This same candidate told earlier that Eugene had a stroke and couldn’t talk or write. Both these points are outright fabrications, i.e., lies!
I have talked to Eugene on the phone several times during his ordeal in rehab to strengthen his leg. (Something anyone could have done if they cared about the truth). I can state without hesitation he was/is his old self in every cognitive manner. I imagine the person telling these lies would have denigrated JFK for having a war injury that hindered his mobility at times and he would also have decried that FDR could not “rule” from a wheelchair.
I would encourage all to vote. And please, as you cogitate to determine the better choice, consider one who has a long record of accomplishments that can be examined and evaluated. Also who has spoken ill of no one. The other candidates can only tell you what they can/will do. Please choose who deserves your vote based on a demonstrated record rather than rhetoric.
