Frank Milam died earlier this week. To most folks, the name means nothing. In Germany, however, there will be sorrow.
Frank was a wiry little cowboy of a feller who lived at Lakewood Park between Manchester and Beech Grove. I met him years ago when I was the editor of a newspaper in Manchester and he was trying to get a bluegrass festival started there. That's what he did best -- rounding up talent and sharing his joy and love of bluegrass and country music with the world. he specialized in putting on shows in Europe, and working with the armed forces. I enjoyed my interview with him. A real character, he kept me in stitches. I'd say "rest in peace," Frank, but you were never the peaceful type. So instead, start rounding up those old bluegrass greats and get the heavenly choirs singing a slightly different tune.
