ooops, she did it again ...Posted Thursday, July 28, 2011, at 2:21 PM
Sometimes, it takes something truly absurd to put your own life in perspective. I'm groaning around town in my 11 year old van with more than 200,00 miles on it and wondering what I'm going to do when it gives up its pale gold ghost, but there's someone in Monte Carlo right now with a waaaay bigger problem.
Apparently, a woman (blonde) drove her Bentley Azure ($363,000) into four other cars, including a white Mercedes-Benz S-Class ($91,000), a black Ferrari F430 ($186,000), and a four-door Aston Martin Rapide ($228,000). Oh, she also hit a Porsche 911, but since it was only $77,000, no one in Monte Carlo even noticed. How many people can say they were in a $1 million car pile up? How many people are taking bets she was on her cell phone at the time? Okay, she's young, blonde, beautiful, skinny and rich, but right now, I'm really, really glad not to be her. Has she done this more than once?
Sounds like in her circle of friends there are no "cheap" cars to hit. At least she had the most expensive one to damage. Maybe that made the others feel better.
Some years ago, back in the 1990s, the son of one of David Letterman's staff members was driver's license age, and as a bit for the show they had him parallel park several times in front of the Ed Sullivan Theater. I think he gently bumped one of the cars on one of his first attempts, but with no real damage. The last time, they had him park between two really expensive sports cars -- which is what made me think of the story after reading this post. I think the kid executed it successfully, with no contact.
The poor kid was a good sport. When it came time for him to take his actual driver's test, at a facility with its own dedicated test track, Letterman had the news helicopter from the CBS affiliate in New York City flying overhead covering it. When the kid passed -- and he did -- they had the real-life governor of New Jersey on hand to present him with his license.
No pressure at all. Yeesh!
Mary, seems that # 11 plays an important part in your life. To me 11/11/11 is special. I will be 73 years on that day. I know that your dad and I shared the same birthday.
I understand that many wedding are planned for that day.
Think snow Mary....
