People Need Driving Lessons

This Friday night I drove back to Shelbyville for the Horse Show. I was so happy to not sit at a red light for thirty minutes. I honestly don't know how some people pass their license test. I think there should be an investigation!

So I greatly apologize for my length away. In the past two weeks I have moved and started school. New beginnings are always forseen as scary things, but i've had a blast. My classes are great, new friends, only one downside-it takes me fourty five minute to drive down the road.

When I came home Friday I realized how much of a blessing our little town really is. The people here, the traffic, the atmosphere. I miss it alot. I know that growing up everyone always said they want to graduate and get away, but I'm thinking-who would want to leave? It's just big enough to be fun, and small enough to have that small town feel. Murfreesboro is great, don't get me wrong, but Shelbyville is a great little town with a history. I'm proud to be from Shelbyville.

I've been thinking of my favorite things from Shelbyville and I keep thinking Horse Show Donuts, Janie Smithson's sweet tea, and El Mexico.(If you haven't had Mrs. Smithson's sweet tea, hit me up, I'll get you the best tea your ever tasted). Our little town has so much culture, and it is such a great place. I can't wait to move back home for Christmas!

I agree on the driving. I'm still wondering how some drivers can have a wreck without insurance or a driver's license, and they don't go to jail? Maybe it's because they are not American. Either way, I think more should be done about these drivers. They are going to hit the wrong person one day, and then this town is going to see an uproar when it's not "properly" handled by the authorities.

The horse show traffic is so bad. They drive like Idiots and think they own the town. And they get away driving their golf carts on public streets and nothing is done about it.

Darn shame, the traffic is so bad during the horse show, that they have to close the schools. What a shame to go to school for 10 days then have to be off for the horse show. Then have to start all over again after the show leaves the town.

Bad enough driving in Shelbyville when the shows in town. I don't blame the school buses not running when they are in town. Because they wouild run them off the road also.Or even worst, show our students how they flip ya the middle finger if you don't get out of their way.

Happier thought. 365 more days til they come back........

wheelbillie,

Oh so true, I hate the trash and the damage they cause. But it sure is nice to have all that money! <--- sarcasm

Ashley, your comment on sweet tea is an eye catcher for me. Where do we get that?

-- Posted by countrygal2008 on Sun, Aug 31, 2008, at 8:11 AM

I love southern sweet tea . . . nothing is better than that!

Also, I think most people have forgotten how to drive . . . or at least forgotten what a turn signal is used for.

well Janie Smithson is actually my grandmother but she makes sweet tea for events sometimes

Jaxspike - You're right, some people here seem to be allergic to turn signals.

Some? It seems to be everyone lately. I was afraid some new law was passed that I didnt know about. LOL!

I mean come on people, I cant read your mind and that is why they put turn signals on vehicles . . . so you can use them!

I so agree about the blinker thing. I've traded a vehicle b4 because the blinkers didn't work. Wiring harness problem.

And, I HATE to be caught in town traffic when the teens hit the road. Mainly, they are the BEST drivers because they are more alert and attentive, but, some disregard STOP signs when deemed an unnecessary stop by them. I can remember myself thinking road signs were a nice "suggestion". ;)

Shelbyville drivers are just as bad as those Horse Show folks.. after all, how many wrecks have occurred during the 12 day show involving people who don't live here?

Probably very few.

Ashley -

I thought you might like to know that I thought of this post as my husband and I were driving to MTSU this morning. People do need some manditory driving lessons.

I like the horse show visitors. Finally... people in Shelbyville that actually have class.

(directs a rapberry at seedsower)

;)

We have native Shelbyvillians with class.

(They just conceal it well so the rest of us don't get an inferiority complex.)

Maybe, the nobler folk need to be less discreet and show us plebian types how to be couth and debonair.

They might even show us how to wait for light changes, drive under the speed of light, turn without doing donuts while straddling two lanes, watch the road, keep control of the pedals and wheel and signal with the left arm rather than the middle finger.
