8 Lives or 8 Choices?Posted Tuesday, January 27, 2009, at 11:43 PM
After seeing the following video about the birth of octuplets, a thought crossed my mind. "WHAT IF" the mother felt she wasn't financially able to provide for these children and chose to abort four and birth four.
1) How do you think the public would view her? Would we think she was evil? Would we think she was playing God? 2) How would the surviving children feel toward her when they grew up? Would they forgive her? 3) Would we feel regret only if the four grew up to be brilliant? -one cured cancer, one discovered an alternative for oil, one was a Nobel Peace Prize winner and one a US President? What might the other four have become?

It is without a doubt this lady was taking fertility drugs so this would mean these babies were a choice. They were expecting 7 not 8 but when you have 7 newborns, what's one more :>)
It amazes me she said she was going to breast feed them all...I thought heck I hope they don't all want to eat at once.
The Public should not judge her no matter what her decisions were...
All I can say I am happy for her if she is happy and if this is what she wanted.
Although I do feel sorry for her with 8 new babies. Even twins can be a handful much less 8 of them.. and Oh My Gosh the expense of 8 babies would be enormous. Can you imagine paying for College for 8 children all at once Ouch!!!
I'd have thought that,if they were going to use medical technology to have the babies, they'd have conceived them outside the womb and implanted no more than three of the resulting embryos at one time.
This would have given her (or some other lucky mothers) the chance to give birth to all these babies over the course of several pregnancies.
But,would the people who would decry her undergoing selective abortion have agreed to help her support eight children if she had chosen to have four sets of twins born three years apart?
What if she had "sold" four frozen embryos to childless couples in order to raise the ones she retained?
If a child dies in utero or afterwards and has healthy eggs, should those ova be harvested to help infertile couples?
Sometimes,I wonder if we shouldn't let our moral development play catch up to our scientific know-how before we bring forth any more children-even if we acquire them the old-fashioned way.
I myself am the Father of twins, if they would of found more, then that would of been more blessings from God. They are lives, not choices.
But of course, until you in certain situations, tiu can't say for sure what you would do.
Although for certain cases I could condone it but after I read this news clip, any reason will probably be used.

I think women should have BABIES, not LITTERS like puppies. They can't afford them, or the community would not have to be donating food, diapers, etc. I have 3 of my own and know how expensive kids are. These babies WERE choices, they were made in a lab (bought and paid for). Of course people can't afford 8 kids, that's what we have shows on like the annoying "John and Kate plus 8" and "17 and counting" they have to pimp out their kids to be able to keep pay for their needs.
These babies are miracles from God there is no doubt about it. But is it a smart decision? I think not. More babies means more of a financial strain on the family and that leads to perhaps needed government support. And thus the cycle begins. I have one child and that is all I plan to have. That is my decision just like everyone else has a decision. However, I took my child to the doctor the other days and I saw 5 Hispanic mothers, all of whom were pregnant, and had at least 3 or more small children with them. Who is paying for their medical care, food, and other neccessities? If you can't afford to take care of them, then you shouldn't have that many. One is expensive enough. Why would you keep bringing them into this world when it is tough to finanically support the one you got. Any thoughts on this?
It's not just the hispanics, it's every race. Why not have 10 kids that you can't pay for and keep having more when WE the working american citizens keep paying for everything they receive from housing, food to insurance, not to mention the money they get on their ebt card to buy clothes and essentials. I would keep having them too if I could get all the goodies that come with having children I don't have to support.

I do not think she would be playing God by having only 4 of the children any more than she is playing God by using fertility drugs and having 8.
You said "what if" one cured cancer, one discovered an alternative for oil, one was a Nobel Peace Prize winner and one a US President? What might the other four have become?
What if? one became the next Charles Manson or Jack the Ripper or Timothy McVeigh would the public scream she had no right to bring 8 children into the world when she couldn't provide for them, would they say they turned out this way because there was no way one set of parents can care for 8 children all at one time?
Personally I say it doesn't matter what the public thinks of her decisions whether it had been to have them all or abort half.
I do not know this lady so I have no idea what her finances look like or if there is any way possible she could actually afford 8 babies.
i do not think that 8 at one time is a wise choice. It is hard enough feeing one child let alone 8.
Who is funding these children, is she recieving aid?
Man i just cannot imagine trying to feed all those babies, let alone transport them at once.
The last I read on this story was that the family was asking for and accepting donations for cribs, clothes, car seats, diapers, etc. so that tells me that they can't afford these kids and thus another 8 that will be living off the system, because you would have to have a million dollar job just to feed them over the years. 4 would have been more than enough. You can't possible nurture and give each child the attention and love he/she will be needing so some will get lost in the shuffle.
I believe that if God intends for you to have a baby, you will have one. You won't need help. He will provide that miracle and him alone. If you cannot have children, then God has something else planned for you.
This is the anniversary month of roe v wade and I can't remember if the count of 1 million was the number of abortions for 2008 or '07 & 08. What if we took those 1 million aborted babies and gave them to people that get artificially inseminated? Because that seems to be a big reason that abortion is legal...What would WE (the responsible society) do with those 1 million unwanted babies?

To abort a baby is bad in itself, but to pull all restraints including partial birth abortion, and abortions without parents consent. The country wanted Obama , they got him.
His motto is change, change to what a country with no morals, God bless all those who fight for family values and the right to life for which I will fight for both.
I think everyone who voted for Obama was clear on his views of abortion so this is no real big surprise.
Why is it so hard and the time so long for a desiring couple to adopt a baby while it so easy and the time so short to abort or kill a baby for a non-desiring couple?
They are almost total and direct proportionate opposites of each.
Looks like one could be the answer for the other and the other an answer for the one?
I wish more of the folks paying the price of a house to clone a puppy or have fertility treatments would take responsibility for lives already here and in need of love.
Does that mean they could never use their money to buy pets or children with the DNA of their choice?
No.
It does mean that they might choose whether it wouldn't be better stewardship of their funds if they spent a fraction of the cost of high tech miracles to raise a critter or child in need of adoption.
They wouldn't need to have fund-raisers or grant interviews or do endorsements to earn the means of supporting those loved ones.
If folks can't find a way to love ANY child or pet, maybe that's a sign they aren't quite ready to add a new member to their family.

She want have to afford 8 kids. You and I will be fitting the bill for her. Bank on that! Not to mention the 47 professionals involved in the delivery! Imagine that hospital bill that we will also be indirectly paying!
As I stated before bedfordcounty, I do not know this lady. So I have no idea what her financial situation is not do I know if she and her husband have insurance.
What I do know is: when a woman has multiple births (6 or over I think) the state and federal government does offer assistance to these new parents in the form of support payments and Nanny help and I have actually heard of them supplying transportation for them. Whether this family is receiving such help: I have No idea. The parents do not even want their names released to the Public, I am not sure if it is because they are not legal or if they just do not want a 3 ring circus around their children. But this was in California so either one is very possible.
I just read an article that this lady already has 6 children. 2 year old twins, 3,5,6,and 7 year old.
"Suleman said her daughter had embryos implanted last year, and after finding out she was pregnant with multiple babies was given the option by doctors of selectively reducing the number of embryos. The woman declined".
I guess what I would like to know is if you already have 6 children what are you taking fertility treatments for and why would these Doctors plant so many embryos.
Yea I was just reading that also bellbuckletn the article also stated she lives with her parents.
I was watching GMA this morning and it was reported that the GRANDFATHER will have to go back to Iraq as a civilian worker to take care of the babies and that the mother is fairly young. So there is no father for 14 children? Whatever doctor allowed this to happen should be sued for medical malpractice, this is ridiculous to say the least!
She has no husband living with her parents.
Just 14 more mouths to feed by us the taxpayers.
The Doctor that permitted this should have his license removed. This woman can't take care of herself much less 14 kids.
I just read another story about this woman, this is a statement from her mother.
Angela Suleman told The Associated Press she was not supportive when her daughter, Nadya Suleman, decided to have more embryos implanted last year.
Her mother also said she has been obsessed with having children since she was a teenager.
I think we hear a lot more this woman in the near future.
