a bibliophile's dream: or free books

I love to read. I will read just about anything and my bigest dream is to have a 100.00 to go and just spend at Barnes and Noble on anything I want.

Next to that dream is one just as good, free books.

I have found several websites where you can sign up and get free or very low cost books.

1. www.paperbackswap.com

This web site is very easy to navigate and has a community of members, a chat area and alerts you if anyone wants you books posted.

Put in your book with the ISBN number and if someone wants your book, they alert you. Use their shipping system for a small fee, and get a instant credit. Then you request books, and get one sent for free.

They also have sister sites www.swapacd.com and www.swapadvd.com

I love that site.

2. www.booksfree.com

For a small membership fee you can get books to read as long as you want to keep them. Return them in the pre paid envelope and they will send you more when they recieve the books and put them back into the system.

I like this one also real well.

3. www.bookmooch.com, www.swaptree.com and www.librarything.com are several more, but i am not familiar with them as much.

4. Places to get books cheap or find rare books:

www.amazon.com, www.powells.com.www.alibris.com, www.abebooks.com,

www.bookfinder.com, www.half.com. Barnes and Noble has used books of the one you search for as Amazon does too sold by individuals.

And of course www.ebay.com

Please don't forget our local bookstore That Book Store on east depot near the Capri Theatre.

The Goodwill has used books also at great prices.

You can find me there often, with my head turn sideways looking for the perfect tome.

I order from Alibris all the time. I have never spent over 2 bucks for a book and they are always in very good shape. They send coupons too for use in future orders. I will check out these other sites. Thanks for the great info.

Don't forget That Bookstore, either, where you can trade in books for credit.

Reading is a great stress reliever and a learning tool all the same. I have always wanted to write a book, I feel like I got so much to say and no where to put it. Why I don't?? Shame.....
