Summer battles: Fleas and TicksPosted Monday, June 21, 2010, at 9:19 AM
fat cat Nikki
I have three cats and a dog, and we had been using Frontline Plus until recently.
Frontline just does not seem to be working at all.
I can tell when one flea is in the house, my cat Teddie will not stay on the ground. He cruises all elevated surfaces.. So the war is on.
The dog got shaved yesterday and look ridiculous, but cooler. He got his flea treatment, and the cats had theirs a month ago. Time for a new one.
I contacted several vets and found out from them that Frontline for some, have had problems with the fleas being resistant to the formula.
We tried a new recommended one called Promeris.
By the second day, any traces of fleas were gone. Ok, I'm sold.
Today i will Sevan Dust the cat sanctuary and dog area, and vacuum the house again real good.
If you have a bag-type vacuum, don't forget to throw the bag away in a sealed trash bag.. the fleas will breed in the bag, and reinfest the house.
In the past, I have used various products to battle the flea problems.
I have used Skin so Soft ((greasy cat, dead fleas)), pennyroyal oil, ((see note above)), Frontline, Hartz ((not recommended due to problems with seizures : See http://www.hartzvictims.org/)), Spot on, Adams Flea spray (( works great if you can keep the ballistic cat still)),a soapy pan of water under a night-lite, and now My New Fave: Promeris..
How do you win the war on fleas and ticks for your friends that are dependent on you?
Give me your thoughts.
