Kindness in a downpourPosted Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 6:11 AM
Fridays have been deemed "No Cook Fridays" in our household by executive management (me) as long as I have the cash for that declaration.
So Friday we went somewhere new, Alphonso's next to the new Roses. It was great, fresh food, friendly folks and a great selection of seafood on the menu. What impressed me the most was the kindness of the owner, Alphonso. It came up a really strong thunderstorm, and people were milling about after paying for their meals waiting for it to abate, when Alphonso uses a little creativity. He gets one of the huge Cabana umbrella's and starts walking folks out to their cars. Then, he notices people coming to the restaurant and he escorts them in with his handy umbrella. It was such a wonderful kindness to see that done by a smiling person in the middle of a downpour it really made my night. I will definitely be back to Alphonso's, if not for the great food for the friendly smiles. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

May I point out one other thoughtful difference that they do there. If you take children to a Mexican restaurants you may agree that the "salsa" bowl can be a bit thought provoking as they do have different "dipping" habits than most adults. They mix fingers and double dipping with out a second thought. Love them as you may, dipping in the same dish is not always pretty or appetizing. I was totally impressed with the way they serve their salsa in a carafe and you pour it into individual dishes for your personal dipping . They won my repeat business with this small thoughtful gesture. Considering the number of choices in town to get Mexican food this one stands out by far. I was very impressed by my visit there.
I too am a fan and I know he donates locally to different organizations (sponsorships etc.)
My husband and I went there a few weeks ago and really liked it. We really liked that they had some different menu items than some of the other Mexican places in town.
This will be our next date night destination! Thanks!
