4th of July fun memories

Posted Sunday, July 4, 2010, at 7:49 PM

I was sitting in the back yard, remembering the 4th of July celebrations we went to as a family in the Military. Watching jets do formations, running around with other kids, shooting fireworks, sparklers and other fun things..lazy fun days picnics and BBQs.

What fun things do you do for the 4th? Do you get together as a family or do you stay home?

How much do you spend on fireworks??

We had a killer party last night (7/3). We had all kinds of food & a few yard games (even some wrestling). At 12:01 am (7/4) we gave our son his birthday cake and did a fireworks display. While we were doing this we played some Lee Greenwood singing "God Bless the U.S.A." and Jimi Hendrix playing "The Star Spangled Banner." There were other patriotic tunes played but those two are all I can think of now. Of course with the party came the hangover; We had to get up and clean up the kitchen and the yard from such a turnout. I can't wait for the next one- EVERYONE enjoyed it!

I remember growing up and hearing TNT going off on the 4th. The area I was raised in was a little on the wild side.

The Fourth of July memory that stands out to me isn't from my childhood. It was in 2003. I was about 5 months pregnant and I was in Baptist Hospital with a severe kidney infection. I had been admitted with a 104 temperature. It was the worst pain ever and I was very worried about my baby. I had been in the hospital for about 4 days when July 4th rolled around (I was in the hospital for a week). From my hospital bed I could see the fireworks display outside my window. It was so close and so gorgeous. This past Sunday, my son and I turned Channel 4 on. As we watched the fireworks exploding on the t.v., I told him the story of being pregnant with him and seeing these fireworks from my hospital room. He loved the story just about as much as he loved seeing the display on the t.v. screen! Not only did I get to see these gorgeous fireworks while I was pregnant. I also got to find out what I was having while I was in the hospital!! Aside from being sick, it was a great 4th of July!!
