Satellite Radio: is it worth it?Posted Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at 5:16 PM
Is it worth 150.00 a year?
I enjoyed some of the stations but for the most part, they played the same thing our Nashville stations do, just without commercials. My feelings were mixed on whether to keep this or not. I thought not to, to me it is just not worth 12.50 a month. What are your thoughts on Satelitte Radio and is it worth the subscription? Love to hear your thoughts.... As a Talk Radio listener, Satellite Radio is the best, not only for Howard Stern, but the limited commercials on all the Talk Radio shows. Every once in awhile when I get a rental car without Satellite and I am reminded how many commercials FM and AM stations run, I appreciate Satellite service that much more. Well worth the subscription fee
Jim & I have satellite radio in more than one vehicle, & we listen most of the time we are in them. He loves bluegrass music, & there is one station just for that. (Hopefully they won't do like Charter & do away with it.)
I like different types of music for different moods I'm in. We don't like talk radio, but do enjoy sports programs. It is nice to have it when you are driving in areas with little coverage from local stations, such as the Natchez Trace Parkway. We listened to the weather station most all the way home from Baton Rouge the day before Katrina hit the Gulf Coast. I have a sister down there, & that information was not available elsewhere.
We definitely think it's worth it.
Locally, I listen to local stations but when I travel between towns, I like it. I don't have to keep changing and often my primary choice is not available.
I've had my satellite radio service for about 8 years now and find it's almost a necessity for me. I love the "Outlaw Country" channel. They play stuff you'll never hear on the local Nashville stations. Hank III, Shooter Jennings, Wayne "The Train".
I also like the Bluegrass station. It's almost impossibe to find any bluegrass music on regular radio.
And in the mornings I listen to talk radio on channel 167. Stephanie Miller at 8am and then Ed Shultz at 11am.
Sometimes I'll switch it over to "Hair Nation" to listen to 80's metal, then maybe over to the 70's station. All uncensored and commercial free.
I once had satellite radio when I used to travel a lot, and it was nice to be able to select from a wide variety of music and programs. I don't travel as much now and saw little need for it. I just listen to my oldies CDs such as CCR, Chicago, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Journey, Bee Gees, etc. when I do travel. I guess it just depends if you have the extra dollars and would put it to use enough to justify the expenditure. But it was nice to have on long trips.
i may renew it sometime soon.
If you check out the Sirius website, you will find that there are various levels, just like satellite TV.
I spend most of my time on Sirius 118 and 117.
I love XM - I've had it over 4 years now. It's well worth the money to me.
I just came off a week of travel to Memphis then back across to Washington DC area, then home. Never lost my music and changed between three basic decades to keep it fresh. 2000+ miles
Of course, it was in a rental car so I don't have a monthly investment, but it sure made the trip more enjoyable. I am listening to AOL now and occasionally use Sirius on the TV.
I love my Satellite radio, living in the country it gives me access to so many more stations. It is almost as important as my internet connection
