diabetes support group??Posted Friday, May 4, 2012, at 2:08 PM
I have found out I am type 2 diabetic. I have been going to Weight Watchers and lost weight, but the doc has given me a weight/diet plan , Low carb (yukk) and I am wondering... Is there a support group here in Bedford County where I can get some wisdom? I would love to be able to get some good tips, recipes and such. I know there are some wise folks out there. help me out! I believe this is correct. I also believe this is the kind of plan that we are likley to end up with, though somewhat less generous as it will be forced on us by our creditors who won't give a hair about healthcare for seniors and the needy. Read "Penny Health" articles if you dont have insurance.
Lisa - we need a support group. I am type II diabetic as well and am on 2 different insulins and 2 oral insulin pills. I know Vanderbilt Heart in Shelbyville is having a seminar this Tuesday, May 15th from 5:30 pm - 7:30 p.m. by a registered dietician. Call 931-685-4492 for more details.

Unfortunately I could not attend the seminar as I had responsibilities at the Symphony performance. It is overwhelming to try to change your lifestyle. It's still a work in progress for me. Your doctor can refer you to a dietitian for a consult and my insurance paid so you might want to check that out. The one-on-one considers your particular food likes and dislikes. Lots of information is available on Web MD and Mayo Clinic websites and others. I am a bit hesitant to take much info from their chat groups. I really check the source of any suggestions I read on the internet.
