I was really stressing about my next blog. I wonder if I am as entertaining as i think I am. Well maybe not. My friend told me Monday night to write what I know...so I am.
I came home from work last week to a house devoid of food and three STARVING teens asking me what we are having for dinner. My mom always ask me if I had a hollow leg and I didn't get it.....ah now I do. They get bored they eat...they are hungry they eat...they watch TV they eat..good grief stop it. No wonder there are so many fat people - me included - out there. We eat all the time. It's easy and fast and self satisfying. I guess this really is about laziness. I used to get put outside all day. I played at the creek, rode my bike, and played every outdoor game that I could think of at the time. Now it's tv, video games and personal music devices. What happened? I look back in old yearbooks and see that there are no chunky kids. I was even skinny in my youth. Has anyone watched WALLE? It's a cute movie with a lot of insight. Are we going to end up as fat people in reclining chairs, no walking, no activity of any kind, so lazy we can't move our own muscles? Is it just me or is the world based on LAZY lately? Let me know what you think bloggers.... Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

yeah kids now a days have more leisure time. They sit in front of Xbox's and such. we are also more busy.. mom calls the pizza place instead of a home cooked meal.
It is just a product of our times.
I have thought about charging every child that shows up at my house to play, eat and use my electricity 5.00 a head.
;)
It doesn't get better as they get older. My boys are 19 and 20, both in college and both live at home. For them, its school all day, work a couple hours in the evening then home to clean out my fridge and pantry daily followed by both of them parked in front of the living room tv for video games til 1am or later. They will both graduate in the spring of 2010. I am counting the days until my grocery bill falls below $100. every time I walk thru the doors.
My daughter won't let me be lazy. From the time we wake up until the time we go to bed we're doing something outside. That does'nt mean she don't eat. She eats like a horse. But she's only nine. I suspect as she gets older she'll fall more in love with the tv, the video games or the computer. Until then I'll be tired and tan.
When I was that age, our parents turned us loose and didn't worry about us getting stolen or molested. I roamed the countryside on horse back from the time I was 10 until I left for college.
I would no sooner let my 10 year old run around these days as I did then, and that's what's sad. Thank heavens for church camp, VBS and camping.
The one thing I noticed when we moved down here was that there were very few parents outside with their kids (in our neighborhood at least). And that doesn't mean that there were/are a lot of kids outside either. Granted, we could afford to loose a few pounds, but for the most part, we are outside 99.9% of the time with our kids. We do tend to hole up inside with them during the winter and we do tend to play video games more in the winter, but that's because we're wimps and moved south to get away from the cold! But I do have to admit we were one of the few that ventured outside before 7am when we had the big snow in March! I think it's up to us as parents to make sure our kids know there's more to life than computers and video games. Or at least until they're taller than I am! :)
I wish my kids would eat more as they are skinny as rails, but they eat when they are hungry and pretty soon I'm sure they will be eating me out of house and home!
I agree with your blog. Laziness has a lot to do with people being overweight. But also its the convenience that the world offers. People had to work a lot harder then physically than they do now. Kids watch tv, play on the computer, or their other means of fun. What ever happened to going outside and playing? I had to when I was younger.
I think parents have a lot to do with it as well. Your kids see how you live your life and they do the same. I am very active and go to the gym 5 to 6 days a week. Do I have the time...not really, but I make the time. After my day is complete with work, cooking dinner, housework, and putting my daughter to be, I go to the gym. Yes its late, but its the only time I can fit it in. We choose healthy things to eat, avoid fast food and soft drinks, and exercise everyday. My daughter see this and it is now instilled in her way of thinking. She KNOWS that this is the things you need to do to stay thin, healthy, and happy. So just some advice, live healthy and make healthy decisions because your kids follow in your footsteps. And also the entire family should participate. Its not just me, but my husband lives out the same lifestyle of healthy eating and plenty of exercise. It can be done if you really want it.
