Burnt out on Fireworks

I have not bought fireworks for my children for about 8 years. Personally, I think they are a waste of time and money. I like to go to the park or where there will be a public show and enjoy it rather than drop $100 or more on something that will burn up. I also think that about cigarettes, but that's another blog.
My children ask me for bottle rockets every year. I know what they will do with them. The same thing we did. Shoot them at each other. Been there, I still have the shirt with scorch marks on it from the Great Bottle Rocket War of 1986. Why waste the money? I know that people pay out thousands for their own private show or else I wouldn't see a tent selling fireworks on every road out of town. I hate picking up pink sticks in my yard for a week after the 4th. It's such a waste and one that I can do without especially when we are in a semi-depression. I am as patriotic as the next person, I just hate to waste money. Well I know you have opinions, let me hear them.... I agree. There are some fireworks i will buy but i have a limit on what i spend.
I'd rather go in with a family have a big get together and shoot them off and have our own show.
I'll buy a few every year. Usually spending no more than twenty dollars. I enjoy watching others burn up their money. But due to the tough economic times I have chosen to work straight through the holiday this year.Keep it up Mer! You're doing great!
So long as we can spare a few bucks to buy fireworks,I do not feel the need to deprive my kids of the same fun I had when I was their age.
Can anyone tell me the who has the best prices nearby on fireworks? I just love the fountains and the artillery shells. I have boys at home and they absolutely love to shoot off their own fireworks in our yard with my supervision of course. Hope someone can answer my question.
Thanks Ducky1...I am still testing my blog abilities and I hope they only get better.
To American Woman - We buy ours from the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department. Not sure if they are cheaper or not than the others, but atleast we know it goes for a good purpose.
We do not spend $100 or no where near that but the kids like seeing a few in our local neighborhood. Water hose always near by.
We do not see it as wasting money no more than giving them change for a video game or riding the horse at a store. I am just glad that we can actually purchase and set them off.
The fireworks are probably made in China, btw.
You're welcome Mer. I've been one of your biggest fans for twenty plus years. And good one darrick.I was thinking the same thing.
Check the American flags and the red, white and blue bunting - some of that is also made in China. What a great way to celebrate Democracy by putting American dollars in a totalitarian government's pocket!
In response to the general concept of fireworks, I don't buy them. Especially here, I have too much dry grass and woods around me to set them off safely.
I think when my children were small we bought sparklers for them. In the last few years I have seen the indiscriminate use of personal fireworks and wish people would abstain. This year is particularly dry and the sparks could be deadly to someone's woods or fields.
