Oops, Your FLY is OPENPosted Thursday, July 21, 2011, at 11:48 PM
I'd like to first thank Veita Jo Hampton--a well known author and contributing artist at The Fly--for loaning me the catchy title. Now, it has come to my attention recently that many people are still not sure that The Fly Art Center is open to the general public, even the locals. We had two people in the gallery last week, both from the area, who said they were hesitant about coming in because they weren't sure it was open [to the public].
If you've been reluctant to drop in at The Fly, I urge you to stop by for a few minutes and check us out. It's a comfortable place where you can find craft workshops, art classes, theatrical plays, community events, etc. Take a stroll through our new Art Gallery, where you will find art and fine crafts designed and created by local area artists, adjacent to which is the Bedford County History Museum...displaying wartime relics and an impressive arrowhead collection, among other things.
And if you missed the Art Gallery's reception last Monday featuring my work on display this month, it's not too late to see the exhibited pieces, so I encourage you to drop in before it's replaced (the exhibit will come down at the end of the month). The reception was a huge success last week. The gallery was packed with art/fine craft enthusiasts, and I had the opportunity to meet people who have been following my blogs on the t-g, and who [for some reason] enjoy my work. It was a lot of fun, in spite of the difficulties with the air (we had a problem with the system and the temperature was extremely hot, but the issue has been resolved and the gallery is once again cool).
For those of you who missed it, the exhibit will be up the rest of the month so please stop by. Several things have already been aquired and may continue to go through the rest of the month, so try to make it soon or you'll miss seeing the best work. I have a unique and varied style, so there's sure to be something to appeal to your interests...especially my new walking horse and Steam Punk pieces. And don't forget the 22 other [local] artists whose works are on display. Stroll the gallery, tour the museum, see the coral reef fiber guild display all in one place and all for FREE!!!
The Gallery and museum are always FREE to visit and the Gallery hours are M, T, TH, Friday 11:00am-4:00pm and on Saturdays from 10:00am-1:00pm.
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO CAME OUT TO SUPPORT ME!!!
