I recently had the great pleasure of talking with some of the Bedford Art Gallery's newest members, John and Nita Lo Re--otherwise known as EVO and OVE. After listening to their soulful music and viewing their private art collections I have to say they are one of the most unique couples I've ever encountered. It didn't take long to see how much love they have for each other, their art and their music. They even wear matching EVO/OVE shirts. We should all be so lucky as to find our soul mate they way they so clearly have.
Nita "OVE" Lo Re follows her husband as this month's featured artist on display at the Gallery...a private collection strictly for your viewing pleasure. OVE explained that having a rich, active, inner life has always been important to her and that these qualities have greatly affected her art. While trying to fit in with her external environment and being 'appropriate,' her inner world has been sustaining and joyful, as well as very painful. And as she so eloquently puts it, "these different realities blended, overlapped, and at times collided."
OVE's art has gone through many changes and she informs me that "working with different media and subject matter provides continual excitement." Though proficient in many venues, OVE is drawn to portraiture and figures because there are infinite possibilities to capture in everyone. The challenges are endless... Landscapes offer opportunities to express her deep love of nature and its healing aspects...Chairs often cast shadows that invite exciting visual journeys...and Textures are especially stimulating to her. Light and shadows play a significant role in much of OVE's work.
OVE earned her BFA degree from Tyler School of Fine Art in 1966, and her MA degree in Marital and Family Therapy (with an emphasis in Clinical Art Therapy) from Loyola Marymount University in 1990.
She credits her work in the field of art therapy as the basis for her tremendous growth, and goes on to add that her "journeys have led me from color variations in my back yard, to ancient patterns in Jerusalem, to feelings of completeness and wonder back home."
OVE's past exhibits include The Cleveland Institute of Music, The Cleveland Women's City Club Gallery, The Fairmount Art Center in Cleveland, Gorky's Café in Los Angeles, The Ranch House Restaurant in Ojai, The Lancaster Museum and Art Gallery, AVAAA Gallery, Palmdale Playhouse, Antelope Valley Poppy Festival, San Buena Ventura Artist Union Gallery, AV College Friends of the Gallery Show, Lakes and Valleys Art Guild, and The Orlando Gallery.
In 2004, she met her husband John "EVO" Lo Re, who involved her in the creation of live music...which led to her work in burlap on wood. Not only is EVO a visual artist, but he has also produced several music CDs which have sold worldwide. In 1979 the Universal Life Church ordained him Reverend. He also has a passion for classic cars and motorcycles, and enjoys flying U-Control model airplanes.
EVO considers himself the proverbial "Mad Scientist", and he even blends his own model airplane engine fuel. He is very interested in the work of Nikola Tesla, the "Father of Alternating Current". This multi-talented artist combines his passions for music and art into what he calls "Sonik Skulptures", "Tronic Art", Space Chimes, and Interactive Sculpture, designed to help all people live better lives through "Positive Kosmik Vibrations". Being motivated by his patriotism he has also created the impressive "9-11 Suite", a series of paintings and sculptures in red, white and blue, using polyurethane and metallic paint and metal. He creates primitive metal masks from galvanized steel that light up from behind, and acrylic paintings of masks on canvas.
This eclectic artist has had solo art exhibits at the Palmdale Playhouse Gallery in Palmdale California, the AVAAA Gallery in Lancaster California, and was one of three featured installation artists at the Orlando Gallery in Tarzana, California.
He participated in several two-person shows along with his wife, and served as President of the Antelope Valley Allied Arts Association in California.
Some of his completed and future projects include the RED BOOK 2000, Wheels Volume 1, The DEDIKATION Suite CD, the P-2000 Pyramid, the Perpetual Rainbow, original sculpted jewelry, and functional art. "21st Century-High N-R-G-Inter-Dimensional-Mystikal-Magikal-Kozmik-Elektronik- Time-Space-Healing-Musician"....."EVO"....."Master of Time and Space."
The DEDIKATION Suite is The World's First, and Only Inter-Active Musical CD. A Fascinating, Futuristic Trip Through Time and Space to a Wondrous Place -- A Kaleidoscope of Sights and Sounds, Fantastic Images Created by your Limitless Imagination. Once you take the Journey....You Will Never Be The Same!
This well-traveled couple decided to settle down in our very own Shelbyville, Tennessee on May 11, 2012 and has never regretted it.
EVO and OVE have exhibited art work at a number of galleries and museums across the US. If you were fortunate enough to get a viewing of EVO's private collection last month then you no doubt have felt the EVO-OVE experience for yourself. Be sure to catch a glimpse of OVE's private collection currently on display at The Bedford Art Gallery until the end of this month. Stop by anytime Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00-4:00pm or by appointment for a private/group viewing. You won't want to miss it!
