The Bedford Art Gallery, in association with The Fly Arts Center, is proud to feature local artist Melissa Fults for the month of February. Melissa is a self-taught artist, with the aid of only a high school art class. She says she's been "drawing ever since I could pick up a pencil and I remember drawing pictures for class mates."
Melissa started experimenting with paint in high school and won several ribbons and awards in local competitions during her early years as a budding artist. Though she works in many mediums, acrylics are her favorite and she certainly has some wonderful works that will be on display at the Bedford Art Gallery throughout this month. Her specialty is clearly in landscapes, but she is currently exploring several different subject matters and I was thrilled to take a peek at some of her latest creations while visiting the art center last week.
Melissa also enjoys working in pastels and pen & ink, and she expects to have a few examples for public viewing at her hosted reception Monday night. I am including a few samples of her work below to give you a peek at just how talented this young lady is, and I am fortunate enough to know the artist personally so I can attest to the fact that she is not only a gifted artist but is one of the most kind hearted women I have had the pleasure to know. Melissa is engaged to be married in the very near future and is all smiles these days. I encourage you to come out Monday, February 10th at 7:00pm for the opportunity to meet her in person and enjoy her beautiful works on display.
If you can't make it Monday night, don't worry there will be plenty of opportunities to stop in during the month and take a quick tour of the gallery while admiring Melissa's 'Wall of Art.' We have over 27 local artists' work on display...everything from handcrafted jewelry to lifelike portraits and chainsaw wood carvings. If you're an artist or know someone who has a special talent I encourage you to consider joining the art gallery and sharing your work with the community. Shelbyville is a wonderful place to live and is filled with amazing talent. Let's build our art community so we can enjoy the beauty all around us.
Don't forget, the hosted reception featuring Shelbyville artist Melissa Fults will be held at the Bedford Art Gallery located inside the Fly Arts Center (behind Argie Cooper public library) this Monday, February 10th at 7:00pm. You can also visit the art gallery every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00am-4:00pm and by special appointment for other days/times. Melissa's work will remain on display until the last week of February.
