This is our first year to be in Shelbyville for the TWHNC. I can count the number of times I've been to the Celebration on the fingers of 1 hand - 3 times. That's it. When we first married, Jim didn't want to go because he had to work there as a Boy Scout. We did attend once about 1965. Then in the 80s I was fortunate enough to get tickets to box seats a couple of times and really enjoyed that -- except for having dirt thrown on me off the hoofs.
We used to attend small horse shows in Lewisburg, Cornersville, Petersburg, and Belfast. I had friends who showed horses when we were young. Even the small shows were fun. However, there is nothing as exciting as the Celebration.
We have always heard of the heavy traffic and crowds during the Celebration, but all of those visitors spend money in our city and county. We can put up with it for a couple of weeks. A lot of people in other parts of the country have heard of Shelbyville, TN just because of the TWHNC. I'm proud to say I now live here.
