My husband and I attended almost all of the SCHS basketball games last year and a couple of the Community Middle School games. After all, it was our first winter in Bedford County, and we decided to support the teams. In the fall we went to several Cascade High School football games. This year we are again enjoying the basketball seasons of SCHS and Community Middle School.
Something different occurred at 2 basketball games we recently attended. I believe they were both high school games, and I know they were not played in Bedford County. One was this past Friday night in Lawrenceburg, but I am not sure where the other game was played. It may have been Columbia.
At both of these games a student offered a prayer prior to the playing or singing of the National Anthem. I can't remember how long it had been since I had heard a prayer at a school event. Truthfully, I thought prayer was no longer allowed in school. I admire the school system for allowing this and the students for their participation. I feel certain the prayers would be stopped if protests were made. Hopefully those whose opinions differ won't attend the games.
