Thursday of last week Jim & I went to Gatlinburg to attend a convention. We were fortunate to have some free time while we were there. Saturday afternoon we drove to Clingman's Dome. Then Sunday afternoon on the way home we drove through Cades Cove. The weather was perfect the entire time, and everyone ran around in shirt sleeves.
It made me think back to two years ago when the same convention was held in Nashville. It was the second weekend in April 2007, and what a weekend it was! It was cold & blustery. There was even a bit of snow. That was the year we had a freeze that killed some shrubs and trees. It took the buds off our lilac and wisteria bushes. Evergreen shrubs ended up with huge brown spots where they froze.
I know there is more cold weather coming our way this year. I just hope it won't be bitter and hurt all the plants that are already budding and blooming.
