Happy to be home again

Posted Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 8:23 PM

It has been forever since I've written a blog.

First there was the trip to California in June. I had a business trip to San Diego, and I invited Janice and Larry, my sister and her husband, to accompany us. We planned to rent a vehicle the last day and drive up the coast of California. I may tell more about that trip later. It had its share of problems because we all got sick. However, it was the trip this past week that stands out the most.

The latest trip was a convention in Austin, Texas. Have you heard about the temperature in Austin? Each day we were there it was 104, 105, 106, etc. Each day a new record high was set. Truthfully, when we got to Austin, I thought I had died and gone to hell. The heat was suffocating. I went outside the hotel as little as possible. Some young lady on the elevator one night mentioned the humidity. What humidity? It was so nice to get back home last night to our real humidity and the much lower temperature.

Betty, I was raised in Texas. You ought to be there in August. Right now, I think that they are having the worst drought since the '50s, if not worse.

Yep, Tyger, worst drought since the '50s, and today finishes the hottest July in the 120 or so years of weather records-keeping. And thanks, Betty, for confirming to my li'l Shelbyville Sis, Mary Ellen, that it IS hotter'n blazes here in central Texas!!

...reporting from Paige, TX, just outside Austin!
