Booze & Lose

Posted Monday, September 7, 2009, at 2:48 PM

I'm sure everyone who owns a TV has seen the current safety ads against drinking and driving. I have a favorite. Someone is singing "I've Been Everywhere", which was a hit for country singer Hank Snow probably fifty years ago.

The singer on the current "I've Been Everywhere" ad lists only towns and cities in Tennessee. You can hear Bell Buckle and Shelbyville both in it. The officers make the commercial so good. As each one of them (state trooper, police officer, sheriff's deputy) handcuffs a suspect, stands someone up against his car, looks into the vehicle with a flashlight, etc., he very seriously lip synchs the words to the song. It is too cute. I only hope it keeps someone from drinking and driving.

Yeah, it is sad to see these folks out drunk and then get behind the wheel of a car. Deadly. I just pray when i get out on the road around folks. booze and texting don't mix with driving.

Putting more emphasis in punishing those who drink and drive instead of making catchy commercials would better solve the problem. It is an almost weekly occurrence in the blotter of someone being arrested for DUI 3rd, 5th or even 8th offense.

It is a good commercial though.

I agree. Increasing the penalties for DUI offenses may be a way of getting someone's attention and I'm all for it. These people do not have the right to endanger other's lives with their actions. Too many innocent people lose their lives every day in this country because of those who drive while consuming alcohol. Take the time to assist law enforcement in getting these people off the road. Use your cell phone to report those you suspect of driving drunk. I do this on average of about once or twice a week. You just might save somebody's life.

I think the commercial is pretty cool.
