I can't believe it!

Posted Monday, January 4, 2010, at 7:37 PM

Two days ago I wrote about contacting family members I hadn't heard from in years and years. I had called one cousin and planned to try to reach another one yesterday afternoon. Those intentions were good, but I didn't follow through.

Today Jim and I had errands here in town and in Murfreesboro, where we took in a movie. When we returned home about 6:30, there was one message on my phone. The message went like this: "Betty, this is Pat. I read your blog on the paper's website. You said you were going to call me, but I'm calling you." You could have knocked me over with a feather. Needless to say, I called him back. This is the cousin in Florida I haven't seen since his mother died in 1993. She was buried in Marshall County, Tennessee. He said his sister had died of cancer in 2007.

Pat said he had tried to find me after learning that we lived in Shelbyville. He had tried to locate our phone number but didn't know my middle initial (maiden initial). There are almost as many Betty Browns in the world as there are James Browns. For some reason, today he put my name in the computer, and there I was with my blog. He saw the picture and recognized me. I have already contacted my sister with this information. On our next trip to Orlando to visit our son and grandson, we will have a side trip to Tampa to visit Pat.

Thank you, Times Gazette, for letting me write the blog which allowed this telephone reunion today.

It truly is amazing how far the T-G blog can reach. It is a well needed "warm fuzzy" for today.
